Optimized MSA DPD method for improving 5G multiband optical fronthaul performance

open access: yesMicrowave and Optical Technology Letters, Volume 65, Issue 12, Page 3326-3332, December 2023., 2023
Abstract A modified optimized magnitude‐selective affine (OMSA) model‐based digital predistortion (DPD) is presented that introduces the weighting function into our earlier proposed magnitude‐selective affine (MSA) method with an aim to further reduce the complexity overheads without affecting performance compared to the MSA method. This model utilizes

Non‐linear modelling and distortion compensation in optical Fast‐orthogonal frequency division multiplexing systems

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 17, Issue 4, Page 139-148, August 2023., 2023
The accuracy of the generalised memory polynomial (GMP) for the non‐linear modelling of optical Fast‐OFDM links is studied. The GMP is used for performance investigations of a distortion compensation approach to IM/DD Fast‐OFDM. Excellent BER improvements are achieved using the proposed compensation scheme, for up to 16PAM modulation and 256 Fast‐OFDM ...

Experimental demonstration of digital predistortion for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing-radio over fibre links near laser resonance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Radio over fibre (RoF), an enabling technology for distribution of wireless broadband service signals through analogue optical links, suffers from non-linear distortion. Digital predistortion has been demonstrated as an effective approach to overcome the

Wiener predistorter for nonlinear satellite downlinks

open access: yesInternational Journal of Satellite Communications and Networking, Volume 41, Issue 4, Page 392-405, July/August 2023., 2023
The nonlinear power amplifier and the analogue output channel filter add distortions to the satellite‐transmitted signal. Wiener predistorter is an effective method to deal with such signal distortions. In this work, we show that fully compensating for the channel filter group‐delay distortion degrades the performance of the Wiener predistortion system.

Attention mechanism based bidirectional LSTM model for broadband power amplifier linearization

open access: yesElectronics Letters, Volume 59, Issue 14, July 2023., 2023
In this letter, a novel model for broadband power amplifier (PA) linearization is proposed, namely Attention Mechanism based Bidirectional Long Short‐term Memory network (AM‐BiLSTM). In order to verify the linearization performance of the AM‐BiLSTM model, a 100 MHz bandwidth 5G new radio (5G NR) signal is employed to test the sub‐6G PA operating at 2.6‐

Digital predistortion of wideband radar waveforms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
As demands for increased radio frequency system performance have grown over time, sufficiently mitigating the distortion introduced by high power amplifiers has proven to be a major challenge to overcome.

Doherty power amplifier with simplified out‐of‐phase power splitter for 5G applications

open access: yesElectronics Letters, Volume 59, Issue 13, July 2023., 2023
Abstract This letter presents the architecture and characterization of a Doherty power amplifier (DPA) with a simplified out‐of‐phase power splitter (SOPPS) for fifth‐generation (5G) small‐cell applications. The proposed SOPPS consists of two passive components, which is conducive to chip miniaturization.
