Digital Radio Frequency Transport over Optical Fiber for 5G Fronthaul Links [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Optical Communications, 2019
Abstract Radio over fiber (RoF) is an empowering technology for the next-generation wireless networks including fifth generation cloud radio access networks. In this paper, we propose a new fronthaul interface which has been demonstrated for a 20-MHz LTE signal having 64-Quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulation over 50 km of ...

Multistage, Self‐Sensing Artificial Muscles With Coordination From Liquid Crystal Elastomer‐Graphene Composite Fibers

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by skeletal muscles’ precision and endurance, CoilLCE integrates a self‐sensing liquid crystal elastomer/graphene artificial muscle with an embedded Joule‐heating copper coil, enabling closed‐loop multistage actuation with programmable intermediate states (strain accuracy of 2%), and antagonistic coordination (32% total strain). These features

Rapid Microwave Plasma Engineering of HfO2/C@C Core‐Shell Fibrous Membrane Toward Flexible High‐Performance Electromagnetic Wave Absorption

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Rapid microwave plasma torch engineering tunes crystal phases, carbon graphitization and oxygen‐vacancy defects in HfO2/C@C core‐shell fibrous membranes. Synergistic multi‐loss effects optimize impedance matching to deliver −65.75 dB reflection loss and a 7.37 GHz effective bandwidth for flexible electromagnetic wave absorption.

Photo‐Switchable Molecular Module Programming PET Biodegradation in Aquatic Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We address the plastic durability paradox by integrating an itaconic acid–derived pyrrolidone module into polymer backbones. Sunlight in water triggers Norrish Type I ring‐opening and hydrophilization, enabling rapid biodegradation into nontoxic minerals.

Radio Over Fiber Downlink Design for Spatial Modulation and Multi-Set Space-Time Shift-Keying

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
Spatial modulation (SM) and multi-set space-time shift-keying (MS-STSK) are capable of striking a flexible design trade-off between the multiplexing and diversity gains attained.

Genetically Programmed Shape‐Morphing of Engineered Living Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Here, bacterial and mammalian engineered living materials (ELMs) are presented, in which living cells direct genetically programmed and enzymatically mediated shape‐morphing. The resulting deformation and shape‐recovery can be actuated in a genetically controlled manner by an ELM incorporating out‐of‐equilibrium counteracting biochemical reactions with

Assessment of digital predistortion methods for DFB‐SSMF radio‐over‐fiber links linearization

open access: yesMicrowave and Optical Technology Letters, 2019
AbstractThis letter presents a comparative evaluation between three different behavioral models to perform digital predistortion (DPD) that enhances the linearity of radio‐over‐fiber (RoF)‐based front haul links for the mobile network. In particular, the intention is to jump out of the volterra box and propose models based on segmentation approach ...

Halide Composition Controls Phase Morphology and Device Specific Performance in Perovskite Photovoltaics and Light Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We demonstrate that halide composition determines phase morphology, governing distinct operating mechanisms in mixed halide perovskites. Phase segregating 75% Br compositions enhance solar cell performance, whereas intrinsically phase‐separated 95% Br compositions provide stable light emitting diodes.
