Predictive digital rock physics without segmentation

Abstract Measuring physical properties from rock samples is necessary in geosciences to calibrate models from geophysical surveys. Digital rock physics is one way to estimate these properties. X-ray computed tomography (CT) images can be used to create 3D numerical models of rocks.

Digital rock physics combines modern microscopic imaging with advanced numerical simulations to analyse the physical properties of rocks. Elastic-wave propagation modelling based on the microstructure images is used to estimate the effective elastic properties of the rock.

Digital rock-dust meter

This article describes the design of a digital rock-dust meter suitable for measuring the rock-dust content in coal-rock-dust mixtures in a mine environment. The work discusses the probe, digital circuitry, and equations used by the instrument. Data from several mines verifying the 2% accuracy of the device is also presented.

A digital rock density map of New Zealand

Digital geological maps of New Zealand (QMAP) are combined with 9256 samples with rock density measurements from the national rock catalogue PETLAB and supplementary geological sources to generate a first digital density model of New Zealand. This digital density model will be used to compile a new geoid model for New Zealand.
