Impact of Terminal Digit Preference by Family Physicians and Sphygmomanometer Calibration Errors on Blood Pressure Value: Implication for Hypertension Screening

open access: yesThe Journal of Clinical Hypertension, 2008
The accuracy of blood pressure (BP) measurement is important; systematic small errors can mislabel BP status in many persons. The objective of this study was to assess the impact of 2 types of measurement errors on the evaluation of BP in family medicine: errors associated with terminal digit preference and those associated with calibration errors of ...

Cuffless Wearable Sphygmomanometers using Dual Digital Optical Frequency Combs in Chalcogenide Chips

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials
Abstract Sphygmomanometers often inflate a rubber cuff wrapped around the upper arm to measure blood pressure. However, the cuff is uncomfortable and inconvenient, making it highly desirable to develop cuffless sphygmomanometers for continuous monitoring of blood pressure in emergencies and healthcare.

A cascade model of dynamic cerebral autoregulation

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend This study examined a two‐component cascade model linking upstream dynamic cerebral autoregulation (dCA) with downstream microvascular function (MF) to explain how blood pressure oscillations influence cortical oxygenation. Transfer function analysis in the frequency domain was applied to quantify H1(f) (MAP→CBFV; dCA), H2(f ...

To achieve this goal, home blood pressure measurement (HBPM) with automated devices has been encouraged. However, part of the medical community still disputes its validity, believing that HBPM may lead to incorrect readings. To evaluate the ...
