The life cycle of Puccinia digitariae on Digitaria eriantha and Solanum species in South Africa

open access: yesMycologia, 2022
Rust fungi are important plant pathogens and have been extensively studied on crops and other host plants worldwide. This study describes the heterecious life cycle of a rust fungus on Digitaria eriantha (finger grass) and the Solanum species S. lichtensteinii (large yellow bitter apple), S. campylacanthum (bitter apple), and S. melongena (eggplant) in

The effect of nitrogen on the development and photosynthetic activity of Digitaria eriantha Steud. subsp. eriantha.

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Range and Forage Science, 2007
Digitaria eriantha Steud. subsp. eriantha, plants were grown under controlled conditions and treated with different concentrations and forms of nitrogen. The plants showed a preference for nitrate nitrogen, as opposed to ammonium nitrogen, with greater total dry matter production and leaf areas being recorded.

In vitroregeneration ofDigitaria eriantha

Journal of the Grassland Society of Southern Africa, 1988
Embryogenic callus was obtained from immature regions of the leaf of Digitaria eriantha when grown in the dark on a MS medium supplement with 1, 0 or 2, 0 mg/dm 3, 2, 4D and 3-9% sucrose. Plantlet regeneration occurred when the calli were transferred to MS medium containing 0, 1 mg/dm 3, 2, 4-D and 7-8% sucrose, and placed under 16 hour photoperiod ...

Short Communication:The performance of beef cows on Digitaria eriantha silage.

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Range and Forage Science, 1990
Digitaria eriantha silage, ensiled when the plants were in the late flowering stage (March), was fed ad lib to mature, non-pregnant, dry Hereford cows from mid-May to mid-September. The average daily gain during a 98-day feeding period was 0.35 kg/cow.

Breeding and evaluation of Digitaria eriantha for improved spring yield and seed production

Euphytica, 1993
Digitaria eriantha is a subtropical grass which is widely sown as a pasture species in South Africa and cultivars have recently been released in Australia. The species is variable in seed production and in other agronomic attributes. This paper describes a breeding program designed to combine the seed production of cv.
