Digitaria eriantha (pangola grass).

open access: yes, 2020
Abstract D. eriantha is a perennial grass not considered as a serious weed in some countries, but a competitive and aggressive weed in others (PROTA, 2016; Tropical Forages, 2016; Weeds of Australia, 2016). The species is listed as invasive in Central America (Costa Rica), the Caribbean (Cuba), South America (Colombia, Ecuador) and ...

Burrow Selection by Temminck's Ground Pangolins (Smutsia temminckii) in Northern Botswana

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 64, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT In arid and semi‐arid environments, many species use underground burrows for thermoregulation, reproduction, and to reduce predation risk. In Botswana, Temminck's ground pangolins (Smutsia temminckii) shelter in burrows during the day, and burrow density is thought to be a key indicator of habitat suitability for these animals.

Smothering invaders: the use of plastic tarps for controlling Urochloa eminii in South Brazilian grasslands

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, Volume 34, Issue 1, January 2026.
In South Brazilian grasslands, invasion by African C4 grasses, such as Urochloa eminii (Mez) Davidse (formerly U. decumbens), poses a significant threat to biodiversity. We conducted an experiment to evaluate the effects of plastic tarps and herbicide application on U. eminii cover in a heavily invaded protected area.

Release From Captivity Allows African Savannah Elephant Movement Patterns to Converge With Those of Wild and Rehabilitated Conspecifics

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 12, December 2025.
African Savannah Elephants from captivity were rewilded and their movement patterns were compared with those of rehabilitated and wild elephants during the 3‐year soft release. The movement patterns of the captive elephants changed after release and were less different from most of the movement patterns of rehabilitated elephants and some of the ...

A review of grass species yields and growth rates in Northland, New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, Volume 68, Issue 6, Page 1440-1463, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Pastoral farming is a major land use in New Zealand's Northland region, with 3,171 farm holdings and a total area of 637,500 hectares in 2022. The region's pasture grasses include temperate (C3) and subtropical and tropical (C4) grasses which support dairy, and sheep and beef production from grazing.

How Energetic Demands and Habitat Utilisation Can Make or Break Giraffes

open access: yesAfrican Journal of Ecology, Volume 63, Issue 8, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Understanding how large herbivores balance energy intake and expenditure is critical for effective rangeland management and conservation. Giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis), as selective browsers, depend on high‐quality forage resources that vary seasonally, influencing their movement patterns, home range and habitat selection.

Field-scale calibration of the PAR Ceptometer and FieldScout CM for real-time estimation of herbage mass and nutritive value of rotationally grazed tropical pasture

open access: yesSmart Agricultural Technology, 2022
Destructive sampling method is regarded as the standard approach for evaluating pasture herbage. However, non-destructive methods for managing pastures are rapidly gaining acceptance because they provide faster results that can influence real-time ...
