A simple technique to assess resource use in dung beetle breeding studies

open access: yesEcological Entomology, Volume 48, Issue 6, Page 627-635, December 2023., 2023
We examined the feasibility and suitability of using glitter as a marker for identifying resource use in dung beetle studies. Glitter addition did not impact brood ball production by two dung beetle species. When presented with four dung pats containing unique colours, Onthophagus taurus showed no glitter colour preference.

Assessing the evolutionary lability of insulin signalling in the regulation of nutritional plasticity across traits and species of horned dung beetles

open access: yesJournal of Evolutionary Biology, Volume 36, Issue 11, Page 1641-1648, November 2023., 2023
Abstract Nutrition‐dependent growth of sexual traits is a major contributor to phenotypic diversity, and a large body of research documents insulin signalling as a major regulator of nutritional plasticity. However, findings across studies raise the possibility that the role of individual components within the insulin signalling pathway diverges in ...

Invasão de áreas de savana intra-amazônicas por Digitonthophagus gazella (Fabricius, 1787) (Insecta: Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) Invasion of intra-Amazonian savannas by the dung beetle Digintonthophagus gazella (Fabricius, 1787) (Insecta: Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae)

open access: yesActa Amazonica, 2008
Neste estudo, foi avaliada a invasão da comunidade de Scarabaeinae detritívoros de uma savana amazônica pela espécie africana Digitonthophagus gazella (Fabricius 1787).

Global distribution patterns provide evidence of niche shift by the introduced African dung beetleDigitonthophagus gazella [PDF]

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, 2020
AbstractThe establishment of cattle ranches throughout the world has prompted the release of dung beetles as biological control agents that reduce pasture fouling and control dung‐breeding flies. One of these beetles,Digitonthophagus gazella(Fabricius) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae), that is native to southeast Africa, has been introduced into the Americas,

Susceptibilidade do besouro rola-bosta africano a reguladores de crescimento de insetos Susceptibility of African dung beetle to insect growth regulators

First report on the distribution of digitonthophagus gazella (fabricius, 1787) (coleoptera: scarabaeidae) in Bolivia

open access: yesACTA ZOOLÓGICA MEXICANA (N.S.), 2008
