First‐Principles Modeling of Solid Solution Softening and Hardening Effects in Al–Mg–Zr–Si Aluminum Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The role of various alloying elements in face‐centered cubic aluminum on the barrier of a Shockley partial dislocation during its motion is presented. The study aims to understand how alloying atoms such as Mg, Si, and Zr affect the energy landscape for dislocation motion, thus influencing the solid solution hardening and softening in aluminum, which ...

A Note on Dilution Assays with Errors in Dilutions

Biometrical Journal, 1996
AbstractDilution assays involve a number of steps in the preparation of the dilutions and the delivery of the diluent. These steps may give rise to dilution errors. If assays are treated as if the nominal dilutions have been used then under estimates of micro‐organism density may occur. In this paper models for dilution errors are introduced.

Dilution is no solution

Nursing, 2020
Abstract: Some nurses continue to routinely dilute I.V. push medications, a practice associated with a high risk of errors. This article reviews correct practices for administering I.V. push medications.

Are dilute solutions always dilute?

American Journal of Physics, 1988
Near the critical points of a binary mixture a solution is never ‘‘dilute.’’ The correct formula for the solvent’s chemical potential requires the fulfillment of some thermodynamic relations near the liquid–gas critical point, which have been proven experimentally. The enhanced solubility of solids in supercritical fluid is analyzed.

The mathematics of dilution

Homeopathy, 2014
The major objection to homeopathic medicine is that the doses of medicine prescribed in some cases are too dilute for any active ingredient to be present. The medicines would hence be rendered inactive, necessitating novel explanations for the action.

Dilutional Acidosis

Southern Medical Journal, 1990
Rapid, extreme expansion of the extracellular fluid with solutions devoid of acid or alkali theoretically can produce a metabolic acidosis, due to buffer dilution. This phenomenon has previously been demonstrated only in experimental animal studies. We have reported what we believe to be the first documented case of hypobicarbonatemia and metabolic ...

Planning a serial dilution test with multiple dilutions

Food Microbiology, 2009
The dilutions used in a serial dilution test determine which concentrations it can estimate well. Two criteria help to select how many and which dilutions to use. The first criterion is a low probability of outcomes with either all growth or all non-growth tubes at the concentrations of interest.

Extinction of diffusion flames burning diluted methane and diluted propane in diluted air

Combustion and Flame, 1986
Abstract A theoretical and experimental investigation of the extinction limits of counterflow diffusion flames burning methane and propane is outlined. A diffusion flame is stabilized between counterflowing streams of a fuel diluted with nitrogen and air diluted with nitrogen.
