Effectiveness of conservation lands in Mexico for safeguarding terrestrial endemic species from the human‐induced extinction crisis

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, Volume 8, Issue 8, August 2026.
Across 1639 endemic Mexican species, we show that most species' ranges coincide with moderate to high human pressure, while existing conservation lands cover only a small fraction of their distributions. This spatial mismatch indicates that current conservation–land networks are insufficient to prevent future biodiversity loss. Substantial expansion of

She Doesn't Whisper: Female‐Prominent Stridulation Shaped by Morphology in a Buthid Scorpion and Insights on Its Function

open access: yesEthology, Volume 132, Issue 8, Page 533-543, August 2026.
Sexual dimorphism and stress‐induced stridulatory responses in Jaguajir rochae (Borelli, 1910). Females exhibited greater absolute pectinal size and higher sound pressure levels, whereas males showed higher pectinal allometric ratios relative to body size, lower sound frequencies, and shorter delta times.

Contrasting Palaeogeographic Histories but Similar Microevolutionary Responses in Low‐Dispersal Island Grasshoppers From Two Mediterranean Archipelagos

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 53, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Aim Island archipelagos serve as natural laboratories for understanding how geological history, climate change and dispersal limitation interact to shape diversification. Here, we examine how these forces influence patterns of genomic divergence, demographic dynamics and phenotypic variation in island‐endemic taxa, with a particular focus on ...

Screening of antioxidant activity, antimicrobial properties, and chemical profiles of 31 plant species against Vibrio and Pseudomonas in the Ecuadorian shrimp industry

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 4, August 2026.
Abstract Opportunistic pathogens represent a significant threat to shrimp aquaculture, as they can reduce productivity and cause substantial economic losses. Plant‐derived compounds have been investigated as potential alternatives for controlling bacterial infections associated with shrimp farming.
