Accuracy and traceability in dimensional measurements
SPIE Proceedings, 1998While the importance of the concepts of measurement accuracy and measurement traceability has long been recognized, they have not always been applied in a consistent or rigorous manner. In 1993 the International Organization for Standards (ISO) published two documents which establish consistent definitions of these and other metrology terms and provide

In-process dimensional measurement and control of workpiece accuracy
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 1997Abstract This paper surveys the available technology for “in-process control” of machined products, particularly in relation to turning, and cylindrical grinding, prior to completion of the machining process. The techniques developed for controlling accuracy of the workpiece, whilst in situ , are described using representative examples of current ...

Accuracy of prostate volume measurements in vitro using three-dimensional ultrasound
Academic Radiology, 1996We assessed the ability of a three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound imaging system to measure accurately prostate volume.Multiple two-dimensional ultrasound images of cadaver prostates scanned in a water bath were reconstructed into three-dimensional (3D) images.

Three-dimensional measurement: The accuracy and precision of the reflex metrograph
British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1988The Reflex Metrograph is an optical plotter which is linked directly to a microcomputer and allows direct three-dimensional measurements of irregular shaped objects up to 300 mm maximum dimension without contacting the object. This study shows that it is possible to generate reproducible results with an operator measurement error of less than 0.2 mm ...

Left ventricular mass (LVM) measurements made by the truncated ellipsoid algorithm from clinical two-dimensional echocardiograms (2DE) were compared to autopsy weights in 37 patients. All six 2DE instruments were calibrated with an ultrasound phantom to standardize LVM measurements.

Three-dimensional measurement: The accuracy and precision of the reflex microscope
British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, 1988The Reflex Microscope is an optical plotter which is linked directly to a microcomputer and allows direct three-dimensional measurements of irregular shaped objects up to 100 mm maximum dimension. This study shows that it is possible to generate reproducible results with an operator measurement error of less than 0.15 mm for linear distances.

A Comparison Between the Accuracy of Two-Dimensional and Three-Dimensional Strain Measurements
Journal of Nondestructive Evaluation, Diagnostics and Prognostics of Engineering Systems, 2018This investigation determined the effect of specimen out-of-plane movement on the accuracy of strain measurement made applying two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) measurement approaches using the representative, state-of-the-art digital image correlation (DIC)-based tool ARAMIS.

Ultrasound in Medicine & Biology, 2003
The purpose of this study was to document the accuracy of 3-D uterus volume and to compare it with 2-D measurements. Transvaginal ultrasound (US) examinations were performed in 48 consecutive patients before hysterectomy. The examinations were stored digitally on an internal disk drive for subsequent measurements in virtual organ computer-aided ...
