Interferometric measurement of dimensional and thermal stability of joints
SPIE Proceedings, 2014In this work we demonstrate how absolute length measurements by interferometry, as used for regular gauge block calibration, can be applied to measure the dimensional drift behavior of connections joined by gluing or screwing and how these joining techniques are influenced by thermal treatment.

Dimensional stability of adsorbents subjected to thermal cycling
Adsorption, 2013The dimensional stability of adsorbent beads subjected to varying temperature conditions must be understood to assess the effect of thermal cycling on both the adsorbent and the structure that contains it. Most of the literature on the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of adsorbents relates to zeolite crystals or clusters of crystals with ...

Dimensional Stability of Composite in a Space Thermal Environment
Mechanical Behavior of Advanced Materials, 1998Abstract Composites are steadily replacing metals in weight-critical space structures primarily because of their high specific moduli. Many space structures require not only high stiffness but precision alignment and dimensional stability as well. These parameters are sensitive to thermal strains caused by the mismatch in coefficients of

Synthesis and Thermal Stability of One-Dimensional Titanate Nanotubes
Advanced Materials Research, 2009In the present work, a novel titanate (H2Ti5O11•3H2O) nanotubes are synthesized by a simple hydrothermal method, and their thermal stability such as the phase transformations and microstructures change are also studied. The as-grown samples are heated in the air at 300-800 °C.

Thermal stabilization for accurate dimensional measurement using gallium
International Journal of Machine Tools and Manufacture, 2004Abstract A new method of thermal stabilization that uses gallium as an isothermal heat exchanger is presented. Gallium maintains a fixed temperature near 29 °C when it melts, and the resultant temperature sustains extremely good stability against ambient change of temperature and pressure.

Thermal dimensional stability in fiber reinforced magnesium alloys
Advanced Composite Materials, 1991The thermal dimensional stability of short alumina fiber reinforced magnesium alloys (FRMg) was examined with the following results. (1) In the case of the pure magnesium matrix FRMg, the thermal stress originating in the difference of the thermal expansion coefficients between the fiber and the matrix is effectively relaxed by the plastic deformation ...

Dimensional stability of composite in a space thermal environment
Composites Science and Technology, 2000Abstract In this study, strain gages have been used to investigate variations in thermal expansion coefficient (CTE) with damage of two representative aerospace structural materials, AS4/3501-6 and XN-70/RS3. Refinements in the measurement technique allowed the accurate determination of very low CTEs.

Thermal expansion of a fused quartz tube in a dimensional stability test facility
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1979A facility to monitor the dimensional stability of structures of arbitrary size or shape under varying temperature and pressure conditions is described. Real-time linear displacements are measured with a modified Michelson laser interferometer to a resolution of less than one part in 107 and an accuracy of ∼2 parts in 107 for ∼1 m gauge lengths ...

[Thermal dimensional stability of dental registration wax].
ZWR, 1990Three bite registration waxes were tested for their thermic dimensional behavior under several heating and cooling conditions. Aluwax showed the smallest changes in length. Difficulties of application are expected because of its low softening temperature. There were greater dimensional changes with Beauty Pink Hard-Wax, but Kerr No.

Three-dimensional thermal aging and dimensional stability of cellular plastic insulation
1996The requirement of producing environmental-friendly plastic foam results in the replacement of the traditional blowing agents, CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons), with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) alternatives. The tool which is able to evaluate the quality of the new generation of plastic foams becomes practically important. A 3-dimensional (3-D) heat
