En la bahía de El Tablazo y la boca del estrecho de Maracaibo (≈10,7º–11,1ºN; 71,6º–71,8ºO) crecen comunidades de R. mangle bajo un clima semiárido con 500–600 mm de precipitación anual. Allí el manglar se desarrolla en suelos sin limitaciones nutricionales aparentes (N, P) y salinidad moderada (7–9 ‰), alcanzando alturas medias alrededor de 17 m.
