Dimethylsulfoxide prevents chemoattractant-induced leukocyte adherence
American Journal of Physiology-Heart and Circulatory Physiology, 1989The objective of this study was to determine whether dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) influences chemoattractant-induced leukocyte adherence in the intestinal microcirculation. The distal colon of Sprague-Dawley rats was prepared for intravital microscopic observation of 25-35 microns diameter venules located in the muscularis externa.

Influence of Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)
Archives of Dermatology, 1964In vitro and in vivo quantitative measurements indicate that dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) enhances human percutaneous absorption of certain chemical agents.

Dimethylsulfoxide and ocular involvement
Journal of Toxicology: Cutaneous and Ocular Toxicology, 1982AbstractDimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) has been reported to result in cataract formation in several animal models. No instances of cataract formation in humans have yet been documented. The author reviews three current theories of the etiology of this effect in animals against the background of FDA-approved use of DMSO for interstitial cystitis and possible ...

Influence of dimethylsulfoxide on transmembrane transport
Biochemical Pharmacology, 1971Abstract The influence of dimethylsulfoxide in low concentrations on sugar transport in yeast cells and in rat intestine was investigated. Transport of the non-metabolizable sugars sorbose and galactose in yeast was inhibited by dimethylsulfoxide in the concentration range 0–1.5 M.

Abstract— The absorption, fluorescence, and chemiluminescence (CL) characteristics of luminol have been studied in basic dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) and various basic DMSO — water mixed solvents. It has been shown that the luminol dianion can be produced quantitatively in carefully deoxygenated ‘dry’ DMSO using potassium t‐butyl alcoholate (BTO) as the ...

Lack of Nephrotoxicity of Intravenous Dimethylsulfoxide
Clinical Toxicology, 1981Intravenous dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) was used to treat seven patients with stable spinal cord injuries. Because of drug-associated hemoglobinemia and hemoglobinuria, the patients were studied for subtle evidence of renal tubular dysfunction by serial measurements of urinary beta-2-microglobulin excretion.

Dimethylsulfoxide as carrier in enzyme cytochemistry
Histochemie, 1971Addition of dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) to the incubation medium of succinate dehydrogenase in a concentration of 10% enhances the staining reaction in the hyphae of the fungus Cercosporella herpotrichoides after an incubation period of 15 min. Controls without DMSO remain unstained.

Solvent-solute interactions in dimethylsulfoxide
The Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics, 1971The osmotic and activity coefficients of six non-electrolytes and ten electrolytes in dimethylsulfoxide have been measured by the depression of the freezing temperature. A cryoscopic constant of (4.40 ± 0.01) K kg mol −1 has been determined for the solvent. The behavior of non-electrolytes both as to solubility and osmotic coefficients is intermediate
