Effects of Dimetridazole and Antibiotics on Growth and Reproduction in Turkeys

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1969
Abstract THE efficacy of dimetridazole against histomonosis in turkeys has been amply demonstrated (Lucas, 1961, 1962; and McGuire et al., 1964). The effect of this drug on growth rates of healthy poults and reproduction in turkey breeders has not been extensively investigated. However Condren et al. (1963) and Lucas et al.

Analysis of Drug Residues in Guinea Pigs Treated with Dimetridazole

open access: yesJournal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL, 1972
Abstract Guinea pigs were given single oral doses of 250 mg dimetridazole/kg. At intervals after dosing, urine and plasma samples were directly subjected to polarographic analysis in which the original drug plus nitroimidazole metabolites were assayed.

Effects of Dimetridazole on the Performance of Laying Hens ,

open access: yesPoultry Science, 1963
Abstract THE addition of a drug to a poultry feed to prevent the outbreak of disease is not always economically justified. However, if such medication can be shown to improve the overall performance of the animal receiving the drug, such additions may then be justified.

Effect of Dimetridazole on Growth of Neurospora sitophila and Lactobacillus casei.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1965
SummaryDimetridazole has been shown to be toxic to turkeys(3), chickens(1), and chick embryos (4). It has also been shown to decrease certain physiologic values in chicks(4). The data presented here indicate that the drug inhibits growth of N. sitophila and L. casei and that it can be, to some extent, metabolized by L. casei.

Determination of Dimetridazole in Feeds by D.C. Polarography

open access: yesJournal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL, 1964
Abstract 1,2-Dimethy1-5-nitroimidazole (dimetridazole) is most effectively analyzed by polarography. A portion of feed (usually 5 g) is extracted with methanol. An aliquot is evaporated to dryness, and the residue is dissolved in a solvent to be polarographed.

Determination of Dimetridazole and Ipronidazole in Feeds at Cross-Contamination Levels

open access: yesJournal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL, 1988
Abstract A rapid method for the determination of dimetridazole and ipronidazole in feeds is described. The compounds are extracted from a borate buffer (pH 8.65) with benzene, partitioned into IN HC1, and then partitioned back into benzene from a basic aqueous phase.
