Electronic ballast from battery with dimming control

2006 IEEE International Conference on Automation, Quality and Testing, Robotics, 2006
This paper presents an electronic ballast for a fluorescent lamp. Some new ideas for an electronic ballast from a 12V are analyzed and tested experimentally. The key feature of the circuit topology is the application of a class D inverter with a resonant circuit. Also, one single magnetic component (a transformer with leakage inductance) is used. A new

Controlling Power Consumption for Displays With Backlight Dimming

Journal of Display Technology, 2013
Backlight dimming of Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD) is a technology which aims at saving power and improving visual quality. The evolution of energy standards and the increasing public expectations regarding power consumption have made it necessary for backlight systems to manage their power.

LED dimming system of wireless remote controller

2012 International Conference on Image Analysis and Signal Processing, 2012
In this paper, an LED dimming system is proposed, fabricated and tested. The LED's energy consumption is low, and the control of its brightness is simple and effective. It can be quickly adjusted between 0–100 percent of its maximum brightness, and will not affect the service life.

Modulations for Visible Light Communications With Dimming Control

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2011
Visible light communication (VLC) uses solid-state lightings to transmit information; therefore, it is necessary that modulation schemes for VLC provide dimming control. In this letter, we propose a multiple pulse position modulation (MPPM) to offer both functions of modulating data-stream and controlling the brightness at the same time.

Optimal local dimming for LC image formation with controllable backlighting

IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, 2013
Light emitting diode (LED)-backlit liquid crystal displays (LCDs) hold the promise of improving image quality while reducing the energy consumption with signal-dependent local dimming. However, most existing local dimming algorithms are mostly motivated by simple implementation, and they often lack concern for visual quality.

Polychromatic optical feedback control, stability, and dimming

SPIE Proceedings, 2006
The use of RGB and RGBA LEDs in luminaires enables a variety of features, such as color temperature-controllable white light, that have not been available in traditional sources. The general illumination market requires that lamp chromaticity be accurately maintained, and therefore an advanced control scheme must be used.

Variable-reactance dimming control for fluorescent lamps

Electrical Engineering, 1955
THE INTRODUCTION OF THE FLUORESCENT LAMP in 1939, provided the lighting profession with a new and versatile type of light source. The wide public acceptance of fluorescent lighting has been due to its inherent advantages such as high efficiency, low brightness ratios, better light distribution, and a large selection of lamp sizes and colors.
