Increasingly conservative N cycling in a wet tropical forest: Litter and stream N concentrations decline over 29 years despite surges from hurricanes

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 113, Issue 9, Page 2476-2496, September 2025.
Conceptual model integrating short‐ and long‐term responses of N in litterfall and stream water in a wet tropical forest subject to hurricanes. Despite N surges following hurricanes, N cycling becomes more conservative in the absence of frequent hurricanes.

Hothouse Hydrology: Evolving River Dynamics in the Eocene Montllobat and Castissent Formations, Southern Pyrenees

open access: yesBasin Research, Volume 37, Issue 5, September–October 2025.
We use palaeohydrology to quantify landscape‐scale geomorphic change in the Eocene Southern Pyrenean foreland. In response to hyperthermal events and tectonics during mountain‐building, rivers became suddenly steeper and faster, with enhanced water and sediment flux and a marked change in planform.

Widespread and Exceptional Reduction in River Water Levels Across the Amazon Basin During the 2023 Extreme Drought Revealed by Satellite Altimetry and SWOT

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 11, 16 June 2025.
Abstract In late 2023, the Amazon River Basin experienced its most extreme drought to date, putting its population and ecosystem at risk. Gauges that were still functioning measured the lowest river water levels (RWL) on record. Here, satellite observations, including Surface Water Ocean Topography (SWOT), reveal the spread and timing of extremely low ...

Streamflow Generation Processes and Stream Intermittency in a Mediterranean Basin: Insights From End‐Member Mixing Analysis

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 39, Issue 6, June 2025.
We identified three primary streamflow sources in a Mediterranean stream: headwater runoff, groundwater baseflow and urban and industrial wastewater. Using end‐member mixing analysis (EMMA), we highlighted the role of groundwater flows and wastewater in maintaining streamflow during low‐flow conditions, noting discrepancies between potentiometric ...

The middle‐upper Eocene Loza‐Portilla Formation (Western Pyrenees, North Spain): Palustrine‐lacustrine carbonate‐dominated sequences in a piggy‐back basin under compressional tectonic stress

open access: yesThe Depositional Record, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 182-209, February 2025.
The Loza‐Portilla Formation (middle‐upper Eocene) from the Miranda‐Trebiño Basin (Western Pyrenees, N Spain) consisits of alluvial to palustrine‐lacustrine facies associations arranged in three depositional sequences. The lacustrine deposition was controlled by a semiarid climate, compressional tectonism and diapiric influences.
