Climate Variability, Soil, and Forest Ecosystem Diversity of the Dinaric Mountains
2016The Dinaric mountains in Croatia present one of the hot spots of European biodiversity, possessing a very large number of species and hosting most endemics. The Dinaric mountains in Croatia strongly affect the climate of the Adriatic region, making a distinct boundary between the maritime and a continental climate.

Wild boar is the most important large game species in Croatia, with populations subjected to hunting/management programs. The population structure of wild boar in Croatia, and the main factors shaping it, has not been sufficiently explored. There are indications from previous analyses of morphological variation and reproductive performance that ...

Carabids in the Dinaric Mountain forests
2022Balkan Peninsula is known as a region of high endemicity, and undoubtedly, the greatest natural treasure of the Balkan Peninsula is Dinaric Karst area, one of the World's biodiversity hotspots. Geographic position, topographic and habitat diversity combined with glaciation events in Europe resulted in species rich fauna. The area served as the refugium

The ecology and silviculture of silver fir in the Dinaric Mountain region
2022Silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) is a key species in the mixed mountain forests of the Dinaric Mountain range, where is typically co-occurs with European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and a number of other less dominant species, including Norway spruce (Picea abies).

The extent of middle Pleistocene ice cap in the coastal Dinaric Mountains of Croatia
Quaternary Research, 2016Solitary limestone blocks and groups of blocks occur on Risnjak and Velebit Mountains and on the northern Adriatic islands of Krk and Rab. Previous researchers have interpreted some of these as a) erratic blocks, b) corrosional remnants, or c) rockfalls.

First density estimates for Eurasian lynx population in the Dinaric Mountains
2023Estimating abundance of wild animal populations is crucial for their management and conservation. For endangered populations, such as the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) in the Dinaric Mountains, it is vital to assess the basic population parameters, such as density and abundance, to enable the decision-makers to appropriately assess the conservation ...

Snow and ice in speleological features of Dinaric Mountains in Croatia
2011The caves and pits with perennial ice and snow in Croatia are situated in Dinaric Karst Mountain belt. The mountains parts higher than 1500 m a.s.l. have a humid boreal climate (Köppen’s type Df) and the lower parts have a temperate humid climate (Cfb) highly modified by the relief. Mean annual temperature in the area up to 1000 m a.s.l. is about 5.5°C
