Fixation of Dinitrogen at an Asymmetric Binuclear Titanium Complex

Inorganic Chemistry, 2021
A new type of dititanium dinitrogen complex supported by a triphenolamine (TPA) ligand is reported. Analysis by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and Raman and NMR spectroscopy reveals different coordination geometries for the two titanium centers.

The evolution of dinitrogen fixation

Origins of Life, 1984
It is argued that nitrogenase originated monophyletically in obligate anaerobes similar to Clostridia. The enzyme system was later inherited, without much change, by photosynthetic bacteria, by prokaryotic plants (blue-greens) and by aerobic bacteria.

Dinitrogen fixation in the world's oceans

Biogeochemistry, 2002
The surface water of the marine environment has traditionally been viewed as a nitrogen (N) limited habitat, and this has guided the development of conceptual biogeochemical models focusing largely on the reservoir of nitrate as the critical source of N to sustain primary productivity.

Dinitrogen fixation by a thermophilic methanogenic bacterium

Nature, 1984
Methanogenic bacteria are known to use NH+4 as a nitrogen source for growth. Previous work with an impure methanogenic culture suggested that a methanogen might fix atmospheric dinitrogen as a nitrogen source, but no further work on this phenomenon has been documented.

Dinitrogen Fixation in Illinois Bundleflower

Crop Science, 2004
Symbiotic N2 fixation capacity may affect productivity of the perennial legume Illinois bundleflower [Desmanthus illinoensis (Michx.) MacMill. ex B.L. Rob. & Fernald]. Our objective was to estimate N2 fixation of three Illinois bundleflower accessions managed for forage.
