CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF DIOCTAHEDRAL TWO-LAYER CLAY MINERALS

open access: bronzeGruntovedenie, 2021
The article shows that the variations in the chemical composition of kaolinite recorded during the analytical determination of individual oxides may be due to different reasons Among them, the following should be noted: isomorphic substitutions, crystal structure features and adsorption of amorphous oxides and hydroxides of silicon, aluminum, iron ...

Multiscale analysis and experimental validation of the effective elastic modulus of epoxy-dioctahedral phyllosilicate clay composite [PDF]

open access: goldHeliyon, 2020
In this research, developed finite element codes were used to study the effective elastic modulus and stress-strain distribution profiles of epoxy resin filled with 6 wt. % microparticles of kaolinite.

Thermal rearrangements for dioctahedral smectite.

open access: diamondJournal of the Mineralogical Society of Japan, 1990
Structural rearrangements for dioctahedral smectite after thermal treatment were investigated. The notable structural changes accompanying removal of interlayer water are contraction of basal spacing, migration of interlayer cation into silicate layer and expansion of b-parameter.

Hydrothermal behaviors of dioctahedral smectites.

open access: diamondJournal of the Mineralogical Society of Japan, 1990
Three montmorillonites from Tsukinuno, Odo, Mikawa and one beidellite from Sano saturated with various cations (Li, Na, Rb, Cs, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, Ni, Co) were treated under hydrothermal conditions. Smectites changed to mica, chlorite and some non-sheet silicates through interstratified mineral phases.

Tobelite, a new ammonium dioctahedral mica.

open access: diamondMineralogical Journal, 1982
Mineralogical properties of tobelite, a new ammonium-dominant dioctahedral mica, found in the Ohgidani pottery stone deposit at Tobe, Ehime Prefecture, Japan, are described. This mineral, accompanied by quartz, occurs as a hydrothermal alteration product of a biotite andesite dyke. Wet chemical analysis gives a structural formula: ((NH4)0.53K0.19Na0.01

How the Solid/Liquid Ratio Affects the Cation Exchange Process and Porosity in the Case of Dioctahedral Smectite: Structural Analysis? [PDF]

open access: goldAdsorption Science & Technology, 2021
The performance of a clay mineral geomembrane used in the context of a geological barrier for industrial and radioactive waste confinement must pass through the understanding of its hydrous response as well as the limits of the cation exchange process ...

Evolution of Dioctahedral Vermiculite in Geological Environments—An Experimental Approach

open access: greenClays and Clay Minerals, 2013
AbstractDioctahedral vermiculite commonly occurs in soils and fresh sediments, but has not been reported in sedimentary rocks. Little is known of the evolution of this mineral during diagenesis. According to the available literature, dioctahedral vermiculite is likely to exhibit strong potential for selective sorption and fixation of K+ involving ...

High resolution electron microscopy of dioctahedral mica

open access: diamondMineralogical Journal, 1978
Two dimensional lattice images of dioctahedral mica with the projection along a1M, [110]2M or a3T-axes were obtained for wedge shaped non-curled edges of sericite crystals. Stacking sequences representing 1M, 2M and 3T polytypes are observed within a small area of the crystal.

Structure and reactivity assessment of dioctahedral montmorillonite during provoked variable sequential cation exchange process via XRD modelling approach

open access: goldApplied Surface Science Advances, 2023
The intrinsic cation exchange capacity (CEC) of clays is a crucial characteristic that offers a tool to assess their overall chemical properties. For the confinement of industrial and radioactive waste, clays are deployed as geological barriers, hence it
