Abstract Seismic surveys are essential for studying the Earth's subsurface. However, the interpretation of seismic surveys requires a link between field data and rock physical properties by linking laboratory‐derived data from drill core samples with borehole information and seismic images.

Structural iron in dioctahedral and trioctahedral smectites: a polarized XAS study [PDF]
The chemical form of structural Fe in smectites influences many physicochemical properties of these clay minerals. Powder EXAFS data for structural Fe in smectites have been reported; however, the preferred orientation of clay platelets with respect to the X-ray beam may lead to erroneous conclusions on the local chemical environment.

Abstract CM (Mighei‐type) carbonaceous chondrites host abundant OH/H2O‐bearing phyllosilicates formed from water‐rock reactions in primitive planetesimals. Their infrared (IR) spectral features resemble those of C‐type asteroids, making laboratory analyses of CMs essential for interpreting asteroid observations.

Current treatments often fall short in managing IBS effectively. Silicolgel, an enterosorbent, reduced IBS and other gastrointestinal symptoms in 90% of IBS patients compared to 20% in those on placebo. Enterosorbents are not currently recommended for IBS; silicolgel is a widely available, affordable option for patients with IBS‐D and IBS‐M.

Low-grade metamorphism around the down-dip limit of seismogenic subduction zones: Example from an ancient accretionary complex in the Shimanto Belt, Japan [PDF]
International audienceReactions involving clay minerals during low-grade metamorphism at the depth of an ancient accretionary complex in the Shimanto Belt, Kyushu, Japan, were studied by integrated transmission electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray

Abstract Non‐exchangeable potassium (Nex‐K) released slowly from minerals is a key component of long‐term K fertility of agricultural soils. Two extraction methods are widely used to determine soil Nex‐K: the boiling nitric acid (HNO3) method and the tetraphenylborate (TPB) method.

Study of dehydroxylated-rehydroxylated smectites by SAXS [PDF]
Montmorillonite and beidellite are dioctahedral 2:1 phyllosilicates. The weakness of the bonding between layers allows the intercalation of water molecules (disposed in layers) in the interlayer space.

This review examines how coating Li‐ion battery separators with 1D, 2D, and 3D structured natural clay minerals influences their electrochemical and mechanical performance. It classifies 15 types of clay minerals and highlights structure–property correlations to offer practical design strategies for high‐performance separators in next‐generation energy
