Application of hydrophobic fluorinated silicon oxide nanoparticle coating on electrodynamic screen (EDS) films for enhancing self-cleaning function of solar collectors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Optical surfaces, which are exposed to outdoor environmental conditions, are susceptible to dust deposition. Sunlight incident on the surface of photovoltaic (PV) modules is attenuated by the dust layer accumulation on the front surface of the modules ...

Ideal Molecular Sieving with a Dense MOF for Helium Upgrading with Highly Diffusion Selective Mixed Matrix Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The separation of Helium gas from natural gas is challenging but highly important. MIL‐116(Ga), a “non‐porous” metal–organic framework is used as a molecular sieve to separate He from CH4. Druse‐like MIL‐116(Ga) particles are integrated into polysulfone mixed matrix membranes.

Improving the Thermoelectric Properties of Conjugated Polymer Thin Films by Dip Coating – but not through Alignment

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials
Organic semiconductors (OSC) are of great current interest for thermoelectric (TE) applications due to their inherently low thermal conductivity and good Seebeck coefficient.

Advancing Electronic Application of Coordination Solids: Enhancing Electron Transport and Device Integration via Surface‐Mounted MOFs (SURMOFs)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of coordination solids, enabled by the surface‐mounted metal‐organic framework (SURMOF) platform, is on the cusp of generating the organic counterpart of the epitaxy of inorganics. The programmable and sequential SURMOF protocol, optimized by machine learning (ML), is suited for accessing high‐quality thin films of ...

Enhanced dip coating on a soft substrate

open access: yesPhysical Review Fluids, 2022
A solid, withdrawn from a liquid bath, entrains a thin liquid film. This simple process, first described by Landau, Levich and Derjaguin (LLD), is commonly observed in everyday life. It also plays a central role in liquid capture by animals, and is widely used for surface-coating purposes in industry. Motivated by the emerging interest in the mechanics

Modelling of the dip-coating process [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Dipcoating, wherein an object is withdrawn from a liquid bath, retaining a thin layer of liquid which then dries, is perhaps the simplest of coating techniques.

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Solution Deposited Optical Waveguide Lens [PDF]

open access: yes, 1989
The development of a solution deposited optical waveguide lens, whose focusing effect is produced by an effective index gradient with a hyperbolic secant variation, is described.

Tuning the Dielectric Properties of Individual Clay Nanosheets by Interlayer Composition: Toward Nano‐Electret Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The dielectric properties of clays are studied on the level of individual monolayers and functional double stacks. The material breakdown characteristics and charge storage performance are analyzed. For illustration, a defined charge pattern representing a cuneiform character is produced, written into a microscopic clay tile, referencing the origins of
