1. The phosphonates are simple chemical compounds containing P-C-P bonds which are resistant to the action of naturally occurring phosphatases and pyrophosphatases. They inhibit the formation and dissolution of apatite crystals in vitro and prevent ectopic mineralisation and bone resorption in animals. 2.

An elderly patient was known with generalised osteoarthritis and destruction of the right hip. Six months before, this patient was admitted to a general hospital because of oedema and ventricular tachycardia. No coronary artery disease was found on coronary angiogram and the tachycardia was successfully converted to sinus rhythm.

DIPHOSPHONATES AND PAINFUL FEET
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Medicine, 1983Abstract: Localised foot pain occurred in four patients with Paget's disease of bone or myositis ossificans who were treated with disodium etidronate (EHDP) in a dose of 10 to 20 mg/kg body weight/day for four to six months. There was localised tenderness and sometimes slight swelling at the painful areas.

Diphosphonate Therapy in Nephrocalcinosis
British Journal of Urology, 1976The inhibiting effect of diphosphonates on calcification in tissues has led to their successful use i n conditions associated with abnormal calcification, such as niyositis ossificans (Bassett et al. , 1969; Cram et al.

Three Ba{sup 2+}/UO{sub 2}{sup 2+} methylenediphosphonates have been prepared from mild hydrothermal treatment of uranium trioxide, methylendiphosphonic acid (C1P2) with barium hydroxide octahydrate, barium iodate monohydrate, and small aliquots of HF at 200 Degree-Sign C. These compounds, Ba[UO{sub 2}[CH{sub 2}(PO{sub 3}){sub 2}]{center_dot}1.4H{sub 2}

Uranyl Diphosphonates with Pillared Structures
Inorganic Chemistry, 2009A series of five uranyl diphosphonates with pillared and canted pillared structures have been prepared and characterized. These compounds are constructed from UO(6) tetragonal bipyramids and UO(7) pentagonal bipyramids that are bridged by the diphosphonate anions. All of these compounds fluoresce at room temperature.

Diphosphonate Treatment of Paget's Disease
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1976Ethane-1-hydroxy-1, 1-diphosphonate (EHDP) was administered in a dose of 20 mg/kg/d to 21 patients with symptomatic Paget's disease. All patients were treated for 6 months and then followed for an additional 6 months. There was a striking decline in serum alkaline phosphatase and urinary hydroxy-proline excretion observed after 3 months of therapy ...

Diphosphonate Treatment of Calcinosis Universalis
New England Journal of Medicine, 1971CALCINOSIS universalis is a condition characterized by progressive accumulation of amorphous calcium phosphate and crystalline hydroxyapatite in subcutaneous lesions. The etiology is not known. Numerous modes of therapy have been proposed, including increased dietary phosphate, a diet low in calcium and high in phosphorus, a ketogenic diet, infusions ...

99MTc-diphosphonate uptake in neuroblastoma
American Journal of Roentgenology, 1976Marked uptake of 99mTc-diphosphonate was noted in an extraadrenal neuroblastoma. Calcification was not demonstrable on radiographic or light microscopic examination, nor was crystalline material identified on electron microscopic examination; capillaries in the lesion appeared to be intact.
