Spiniform macrosetae have been useful as a taxonomic trait in the genus Diplocentrus, such as the telotarsal spiniform macrosetae formula widely used to separate species. Basitarsal spiniform macrosetae have been studied in the family Scorpionidae but not in its sister family (Diplocentridae).
