The Origins of Viking Age Dogs in Luistari, Eura, Finland

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We used stable (δ18O) and radiogenic (87Sr/86Sr) isotopic proxies to investigate the origins of dogs (Canis familiaris) buried in Viking Age graves at Luistari, Finland. While all 13 dogs exhibited oxygen isotope values compatible with local surface waters, 87Sr/86Sr ratios for two of the four dogs analyzed (graves 289 and 480) were compatible

Unapparent trees: escaping enemies in time by being discreet, unpredictable and inaccessible

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
For half a century, biologists considered trees as particularly apparent to their enemies. But why then do some trees escape herbivorous enemies by bursting buds either too early or too late, leading to phenological mismatch? We hypothesize that such mismatches occur on trees that are unapparent in time – those that burst buds ‘discreetly' (slowly) and

Bifunctional MOF‐on‐MOF‐Derived CuCo2O4 for Oxygen Evolution Reaction Electrocatalysis and Supercapacitor Electrodes

open access: yesChemistryOpen, EarlyView.
A bifunctional copper cobalt oxide derived from metal‐organic frameworks was synthesized with a spinel structure and coral reef‐like morphology. It showed excellent activity for the oxygen evolution reaction, with overpotential of 317 mV at 10 mA cm−2 and Tafel slope of 49 mV dec−1.
