Epicycles in hyperbolic sky

open access: yes, 2018
Consider a swiveling arm on an oriented complete riemannian surface composed of three geodesic intervals, attached one to another in a chain. Each interval of the arm rotates with constant angular velocity around its extremity contributing to a common ...

Magnetic Textiles: A Review of Materials, Fabrication, Properties, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Magnetic textiles (M‐textiles) are emerging as a programmable materials platform that merges magnetic matter with hierarchical textile structures. This article consolidates magnetic material classes, textile architectures, and fabrication and magnetization strategies, revealing structure–property–function relationships that govern magneto‐mechanical ...

Skin‐Like Tri‐Modal Sensors Based on Soft Piezoelectric and Ionic Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Inspired by the multimodal perception of human skin, a soft, skin‐like tri‐modal sensor is presented. The device incorporates an ionically conductive, piezoelectric, elastic composite as its active layer, enabling independent detection of temperature, static strain, and dynamic strain within a single two‐terminal architecture.

Modulus‐Switchable Miniature Robots for Biomedical Applications: A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Materials, robot designs, proof‐of‐concept functions, and biomedical applications of modulus‐switchable miniature robots. Miniature soft robots have shown great potential in biomedical applications due to their excellent controllability and suitable mechanical properties in biological environments.

Dipolar correlations in structured solvents under nanoconfinement. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Physics, 2014
We study electrostatic correlations in structured solvents confined to nanoscale systems. We derive variational equations of Netz-Orland type for a model liquid composed of finite size dipoles.

Fluctuational-electrodynamic theory and dynamics of heat transfer in multiple dipolar systems

open access: yes, 2013
A general fluctuational-electrodynamic theory is developed to investigate radiative heat exchanges between objects which are assumed small compared with their thermal wavelength (dipolar approximation) in N-body systems immersed in a thermal bath.

Cold Orthogonal Translation: A Psychrophilic Pyrrolysyl‐tRNA Synthetase Boosts Genetic Code Expansion in E. coli

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Orthogonal translation systems (OTSs) enable site‐specific incorporation of non‐canonical amino acids (ncAAs) and are central to genetic code expansion. Current engineering strategies typically rely on hyperstable aminoacyl tRNA synthetase (aaRS) scaffolds to tolerate destabilizing mutations required for substrate diversification.

The disappearance of viscous and laminar wakes in complex flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The singular effects of steady large-scale external strain on the viscous wake generated by a rigid body and the overall flow field are analysed. In an accelerating flow strained at a positive rate, the vorticity field is annihilated owing to positive ...

Quantized spin wave modes in magnetic tunnel junction nanopillars

open access: yes, 2010
We present an experimental and theoretical study of the magnetic field dependence of the mode frequency of thermally excited spin waves in rectangular shaped nanopillars of lateral sizes 60x100, 75x150, and 105x190 nm2, patterned from MgO-based magnetic ...

Dipolar Bose gas with three-body interactions in weak disorder [PDF]

open access: yesThe European Physical Journal D, 2019
We study effects of weak disorder with Gaussian correlation function on a dipolar Bose gas with three-body interactions using the Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov theory. Corrections due to quantum, thermal and disorder fluctuations to the condensate depletion, the one-body density correlation function as well as to the equation of state and the ground state ...
