Dipole–Dipole Interactions in Tungstates

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1968
The vibrational spectra of divalent metal tungstates of the form MWO4, where M = Ba, Sr, Ca, or Zn, have been analyzed in terms of dipole–dipole interactions between adjacent tungstate ions. The van der Waals potential constants determined are of the order of (13 − 110) × 10−60 erg·cm6 and approximate those for alkali halides.

The dipole-dipole potential in statistical mechanics

Molecular Physics, 1975
We study the interaction energy of a system of N particles with embedded point dipoles in a cube, this cube being duplicated indefinitely throughout space. We are able to evaluate exactly this energy for arbitrary positions and orientations of the N particles, to provide an effective hamiltonian suitable for the study of the statistical mechanics of ...

Teaching ion-ion, ion-dipole, and dipole-dipole interactions

Journal of Chemical Education, 1977
Shows how electrostatic interactions can be expressed quantitatively through Coulomb's law and taught at a variety of places in the chemistry curriculum.

Dipoles, dipole-dipole interactions, and spectral effects

2012
Dipoles, dipole moments, and their interactions are very important for explaining many properties of molecules that are considered in this book, including non-covalent interactions and spectra. This tutorial sets out some of the key points about dipoles and their interactions. An electric dipole...

Dipole-Dipole Study of the Travale Geothermal Field

1980
The present paper deals with the application of the dipole sounding method in the Travale geothermal area (Tuscany) and is a part of a wider research addressed to a systematic study of the exploring power of the method. It constitutes a first attempt for the realization of an efficacious prospecting technique in areas of geothermal interest.

Dipole-dipole energy in ferromagnetic crystals

Physics Letters A, 1973
Abstract The magnetic dipole-dipole energy of an array of ferromagnetic localized magnetic moments in a crystal is shown to be zero when the atom arrangement of the magnetic atoms is of cubic space group symmetry.

Uniaxial systems with dipole-dipole interactions

Journal of Physics A: Mathematical and General, 2000
Within the context of a model that allows for the exact calculation of the partition function, it is shown that a d -dimensional uniaxial system with dipolar interactions falls into the same universality class as a (d + 1)-dimensional, strictly short-range system.

Spin Dipole—Dipole Interaction in O2

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1965
The electron spin dipole—dipole interaction in O2 is calculated nonempirically by the use of several approximate wavefunctions of the HL and LCAO—MO types. It is pointed out that the experimental value determined by Tinkham and Strandberg can hardly be explained by simple LCAO-type approximations; the calculated value would agree with the experiment ...
