Effects of competition and predation risk from a life history intraguild predator on individual specialisation

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Individual niche specialisation is widespread within animal populations and can have important ecological consequences. Predation and competition are known drivers of individual specialisation, but their combined effects are unstudied. This mesocosm experiment shows that competition and predation from a single antagonist can have variable effects on ...

Bottom‐up and top‐down effects combine to drive predator–prey interactions in a forest biodiversity experiment

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
This study constructed a real spider–prey interaction network using metabarcoding, integrating multitrophic levels (Plant–Prey–Spider) and multiple diversity indices (taxonomic, functional and phylogenetic diversity) to analyse how bottom‐up effects from tree communities and top‐down effects from spider communities influence spider–prey interactions in

Subtle stressors—Strong responses. Consistent negative effects of avian blood parasites on phenotypic and demographic traits across songbirds

open access: yesJournal of Animal Ecology, EarlyView.
Avian blood parasites are widespread and often considered benign, yet mounting evidence suggests they subtly impair host traits. This meta‐analysis is timely and necessary to quantify their true impact across systems, challenging assumptions and highlighting overlooked consequences for fitness and population dynamics. Abstract Stressors that subtly yet

Impacts of proactive health management on cattle and horse diets and dung biodiversity in Danish rewilding areas

open access: yesJournal of Applied Ecology, EarlyView.
Our findings demonstrate functional differences between cattle and horses, which suggest complementary effects on vegetation development and consequently biodiversity. Also, our results indicate that this functionality is impacted by proactive health management actions.

Characterization of the Buccula, Rostrum, Stridulatory Sulcus, Scutellum, and External Female Genitalia of Triatoma carcavalloi (Jurberg, Rocha & Lent, 1998), Triatoma circummaculata (Stål, 1859), and Triatoma rubrovaria (Blanchard, 1843) (Hemiptera, Reduviidae, Triatominae)

open access: yesJournal of Parasitology Research, 2019
In Brazil, Triatoma rubrovaria (Blanchard, 1843) is the most important species in epidemiological terms in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, due to its wide geographical distribution in this state, followed by T.

THE DIPTERA OF BRITISH COLUMBIA [PDF]

open access: yesThe Canadian Entomologist, 1904
During the summers of 1901–2, while at the Minnesota Seaside Station of Vancouver Island, Professor Raymond C. Osburn collected a number of Diptera, and during the these same seasons and the past summer Professor R. V. Harvey, of The Queen's School at Vancouver, British Columbia, collected in the same order.
