Mapping the evolution of mitochondrial complex I through structural variation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Respiratory complex I (CI) is crucial for bioenergetic metabolism in many prokaryotes and eukaryotes. It is composed of a conserved set of core subunits and additional accessory subunits that vary depending on the organism. Here, we categorize CI subunits from available structures to map the evolution of CI across eukaryotes. Respiratory complex I (CI)

Estimation of Synthetic Unit Hydrographs’ Parameter Values: The Case of Wadi Al-Badan Sub-Catchment, West Bank, Palestine [PDF]

open access: yesمجلة جامعة النجاح للأبحاث العلوم الطبيعية
Developing unit hydrographs is critical in gauged catchments. Due to the lack of local data, engineers should strive to estimate discharges based on empirical (synthetic) methods in ungauged catchments.

Direct Proofs of Order Independence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
We establish a generic result concerning order independence of a dominance relation on finite games. It allows us to draw conclusions about order independence of various dominance relations in a direct and simple way.Comment: 9 ...

Direct measurement of antiferromagnetic domain fluctuations

open access: yes, 2007
Measurements of magnetic noise emanating from ferromagnets due to domain motion were first carried out nearly 100 years ago and have underpinned much science and technology. Antiferromagnets, which carry no net external magnetic dipole moment, yet have a

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Avoiding Rotated Bitboards with Direct Lookup [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper describes an approach for obtaining direct access to the attacked squares of sliding pieces without resorting to rotated bitboards. The technique involves creating four hash tables using the built in hash arrays from an interpreted, high level

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

A new method for efficacy testing of control measures against adult Western Corn Rootworm in maize

open access: yesJournal für Kulturpflanzen, 2012
Relative sampling methods, like sticky traps, are commonly used to monitor population fluctuations of flying insects, either to facilitate control decisions in integrated pest management or for evaluation of experimental insecticide treatments in ...
