Engineering Neuronal Network Connectivity Through Precise and Scalable Electrical Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents a scalable all‐electrical method for precise neuronal‐circuit reconfiguration based on high‐density microelectrode arrays. By employing biologically inspired plasticity rules, targeted connectivity changes were successfully induced and quantified across diverse neuronal preparations.

A New Customizable Surfactant LLPS Strategy for Sustainable and Highly Efficient Radioactive Metal Ion Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A diluent‐free, customizable liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS) platform enables highly efficient radioactive metal ion extraction and stripping. By encapsulating hydrophobic extractants into an ionic surfactant‐rich condensed phase, this LLPS system leverages synergistic electrostatic and coordination interactions.

Physics‐Constrained Constitutive Learning of Rate‐Limiting Timescales for Efficient Hydrogen‐Based Direct Reduction for Green Steel Making

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A conversion‐resolved constitutive framework is developed for the hydrogen‐based direct reduction of iron oxide pellets. Effective reaction and transport timescales are inferred directly from measured trajectories and mapped against operating conditions, pellet architecture, and composition. The analysis reveals how late‐stage transport control emerges

Biosynthesis of Sciadonic Acid Derived from Gymnosperms with Anti‐Colitis Activity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study establishes an efficient Yarrowia lipolytica platform for unusual sciadonic acid (SCA) production and assess the anti‐colitis efficacy in mice of SCA, supporting its potential as a novel therapeutic lipid. ABSTRACT Sciadonic acid (SCA), Δ5‐unsaturated fatty acid with anti‐inflammatory and lipid‐regulatory properties, is predominantly derived

Physics‐Informed Machine Learning for Sustainable Alloy Design: Toward a Recyclable Unified Q&P Steel

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A physics‐informed property‐bridging framework links high‐throughput hardness screening to tensile performance in quenching and partitioning steels. By transferring metallurgically guided representations across properties, a single alloy composition is designed to achieve multiple strength grades through heat‐treatment tuning alone, offering a ...

Light‐Switched Mesenchymal Stem Cells for In Situ Exosome Amplification in Craniofacial Bone Defect Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Light‐switchable MSCs (MSC‐UCNPs) were constructed by intracellular incorporation of UCNPs. Upon 980 nm irradiation, UCNPs emitted localized ultraviolet light (365 nm), activating the ROS/HEXB/LAMP1 signaling pathway to suppress lysosome–multivesicular body fusion and thereby enhance exosome biogenesis. Embedded within an injectable hydrogel, MSC‐UCNPs

Allergic rhinitis: Direct and indirect costs

Allergy and Asthma Proceedings, 2010
Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common conditions affecting both children and adults. Along with the burden of the disease and decrease in quality of life associated with allergic rhinitis, there are high costs related to the disorder. Costs due to allergic rhinitis can be divided into two categories: direct costs that are related to monies spent ...

A comprehensive study of the direct and indirect costs of adult asthma

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2003
Asthma is a common and costly health condition, but most estimates of its economic effect have relied on secondary sources with limited condition-specific detail. We sought to estimate the magnitude of direct and indirect costs of adult asthma from the perspective of society. We used cross-sectional survey data from an ongoing community-based panel study

Rheumatoid arthritis: direct and indirect costs

Joint Bone Spine, 2004
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) causes disability, deformities, progressive radiological joint damage often with a need for joint replacement surgery, premature death, and alterations in quality of life. The economic burden created by RA is enormous. Direct costs per patient have been estimated at 1812-11,792 Euro annually and indirect costs at 1260-37,994 ...
