Short contact time direct coal liquefaction using a novel batch reactor. Quarterly report, 1996 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The objective of this research is to optimize the design and operation of the bench scale batch reactor (SCTBR) for coal liquefaction at short contact times (0.01 to 10 minutes or longer).

A Study on the Hydro-Liquefaction Kinetics of Shengli Lignite during the Heating-Up and Isothermal Stages under Mild Conditions

open access: yesEnergies
Studying the hydro-liquefaction kinetics of lignite contributes to optimizing the mild liquefaction process for lignite. In this paper, the direct liquefaction performance of Shengli lignite (SL) was investigated using a H2/THN system with 4 MPa of ...

On the chemical effects on catalysts in the direct liquefaction of coal

open access: yesFuel Processing Technology, 1986
Abstract The liquefaction of a highly volatile bituminous coal was studied between 350°C and 400°C, using highly dispersed and non porous catalysts, smaller than 0.05 μm in particle size (A1 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , C ; SnO 2 , MoO 3 , Fe 2 O 3 ) and two “industrial” catalysts (red mud ; NiMo/A1 2 O 3 ).

Holocene Slip Behavior and Shallow Structure of the Milun Fault at the Collision–Subduction Transition, Eastern Taiwan

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 69, Issue 2, June 2026.
The Milun Fault forms the northernmost onshore segment of the Longitudinal Valley fault system, a plate‐boundary suture between the Eurasian and Philippine Sea plates in eastern Taiwan, and poses a significant seismic hazard to Hualien City. Despite destructive earthquakes in 1951 and 2018, the shallow structure, long‐term slip behavior, and ...

Coal liquefaction process streams characterization and evaluation. Solid-state NMR characterization of coal liquefaction products [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
This study clearly demonstrated the usefulness of liquid- and solid-state {sup 13}C- and {sup 1}H-NMR for the examination of process-derived materials from direct coal liquefaction. The techniques can provide data not directly obtainable by other methods

Creating Flood Disasters: Environmental Memory and Adaptation in Aotearoa New Zealand

open access: yesKōtuitui: New Zealand Journal of Social Sciences Online, Volume 21, Issue 2, June 2026.
This article explores three questions. First, why does New Zealand have widespread flooding hazards? Second, why are these persistent, with little seemingly learned from the memory of earlier events? And third, beyond reiterating conventional solutions, what examples of alternatives or adaptations are being developed in different places?

Novel design criteria for direct coal liquefaction reactors

open access: yes, 1985
A semi-batch Direct Coal Liquefaction facility was designed and constructed in order to examine the impact of process variables on coal liquefaction kinetics.

Advanced liquefaction using coal swelling and catalyst dispersion techniques [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
Research in this project centers upon developing a new approach to the direct liquefaction of coal to produce an all-distillate product slate at a sizable cost reduction over current technology.
