Liquefied natural gas for the UK: a life cycle assessment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
PURPOSE: Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is expected to become an important component of the UK’s energy supply because the national hydrocarbon reserves on the continental shelf have started diminishing. However, use of any carbon-based fuel runs counter to

Role of catalysts during direct coal liquefaction

open access: yesFuel Processing Technology, 1986
Hydroliquefaction of a highly volatile bituminous French coal (Freyming) was studied in a wide temperature range (from ∼ 350°C up to ∼ 400°C). Non-porous catalyst precursors (Fe2O3, MoO3, Al2O3) obtained by a flame method were used. They were sulfided in-situ by addition of elemental sulfur.

Numerical Investigation of the Influence of Interparticle Cohesion During the Shear Behavior of Granular Soil

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Interparticle cohesive forces play a crucial role in governing the shear behavior of many soils; however, quantifying this effect remains challenging due to limited microscopic insights available from laboratory experiments. In this context, the current study aims to investigate the influence of microscale cohesion on the shear response using ...

Modeling the Thermal Properties of Hydrogen‐Based Direct Reduced Iron Using Computational Thermodynamics and Machine Learning

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Hydrogen‐based direct reduced iron (H‐DRI) melts differently from scrap and carbon‐bearing DRI. This work combines differential scanning calorimetry experiments, FactSage thermodynamics, and simple composition‐based regression to predict solidus, liquidus, heat capacity, and enthalpy for H‐DRI.

Coal desulfurization [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
Organic sulfur is removed from coal by treatment with an organic solution of iron pentacarbonyl. Organic sulfur compounds can be removed by reaction of the iron pentacarbonyl with coal to generate CO and COS off-gases.

Research on the construction of a natural gas price index in China

open access: yesEnergy Strategy Reviews, 2020
A natural gas price index (NGPI) can be used by stakeholders to comprehensively evaluate the natural gas market. At present, there is no NGPI to measure the volatility of China's entire natural gas market.

Preliminary Study on Unit Commitment for Renewable Energy Integration Considering Operation Cost and Life Cycle Assessment

open access: yesIEEJ Transactions on Electrical and Electronic Engineering, EarlyView.
Most countries, including Japan, are focused on achieving net‐zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050, which requires quick action. Despite the increasing level of renewable power generation in power grids, fossil fuel power plants still have a significant role in producing GHG emissions, causing serious environmental issues.

REPRODUCING OPERATIONAL LANDSCAPES: The Rock Mining for Indonesia's New Capital City

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract Indonesia's new capital city is designed to become a green and sustainable city. In this article, we examine the (un)sustainability of the process through which the city is coming into being. Using the sociospatial theory of planetary urbanization, we trace the dialectical relationship between the new city and sites beyond it to show how ...
