Motif Enrichment Analysis: a unified framework and an evaluation on ChIP data

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2010
Background A major goal of molecular biology is determining the mechanisms that control the transcription of genes. Motif Enrichment Analysis (MEA) seeks to determine which DNA-binding transcription factors control the transcription of a set of genes by ...

Preliminary control law and hardware designs for a ride quality augmentation system for commuter aircraft. Phase 2 [PDF]

open access: yes
The continued investigation of the design of Ride Quality Augmentation Systems (RQAS) for commuter aircraft is described. The purpose of these RQAS is the reduction of the vertical and lateral acceleration response of the aircraft due to atmospheric ...

Effects of corpus-based instruction on phraseology in learner English [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
This study analyses the effects of data-driven learning (DDL) on the phraseology used by 223 English students at an Italian university. The students studied the genre of opinion survey reports through paper-based and hands-on exploration ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Enhanced maximum power point tracking performance for PV systems in zero-energy buildings: An optimized SVR–TPE approach with hybrid energy storage and real-time capability

open access: yesUnconventional Resources
Grid-connected photovoltaic systems used in zero-energy building applications are reliable and practically deployable only when maximum power extraction, direct-current link stability, and grid power-injection control are designed and evaluated in a ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Hierarchical Data-Driven Analysis of Clinical Symptoms Among Patients With Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2019
Mutations in the LRRK2 and GBA genes are the most common inherited causes of Parkinson's disease (PD). Studies exploring phenotypic differences based on genetic status used hypothesis-driven data-gathering and statistical-analyses focusing on specific ...

Nicotinamide N‐methyltransferase promotes drug resistance in lung cancer, as revealed by nascent proteomic profiling

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
AZD9291 has shown promise in targeted cancer therapy but is limited by resistance. In this study, we employed metabolic labeling and LC–MS/MS to profile time‐resolved nascent protein perturbations, allowing dynamic tracking of drug‐responsive proteins. We demonstrated that increased NNMT expression is associated with drug resistance, highlighting NNMT ...

Data-driven decision making for enhancing small-signal stability in hybrid AC/DC grids through converter control role assignment

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrical Power & Energy Systems
Hybrid AC/DC transmission grids incorporate High-Voltage Direct-Current links, enabled by the presence of Interconnecting Power Converters (IPCs). The control role assigned to each IPC significantly influences grid dynamics.

PARP inhibitors elicit distinct transcriptional programs in homologous recombination competent castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
PARP inhibitors are used to treat a small subset of prostate cancer patients. These studies reveal that PARP1 activity and expression are different between European American and African American prostate cancer tissue samples. Additionally, different PARP inhibitors cause unique and overlapping transcriptional changes, notably, p53 pathway upregulation.
