Direct diabetogenic effect of diltiazem ?

Abstract. In the reported case history, a normotensive and non‐diabetic patient with ischaemic heart disease was treated twice with diltiazem. On both occasions diabetes mellitus developed within a few days; at first this was fully reversible, but on the last occasion it was irreversible.

Direct antiatherogenic effect of garlic

Blood serum of patients with documented coronary atherosclerosis induces intracellular cholesterol accumulation in a primary culture of human aortic intimal cells. Serum prepared from blood collected 2–4 h after administration of a tablet containing 300 mg garlic powder (Kwai, Germany) induces a much lower cholesterol accumulation in cultured cells.
