Mechanistic Study of ROS-photogeneration by Pterin

open access: yesPteridines, 2011
Pterins are widespread in biological systems and possess photosensitizing activities. In the present study, the photosensitization mechanism of acid form of pterin (PTA) and basic form of pterin (PTB) is investigated by means of density functional theory

Electron and Proton Flux for Carbon Dioxide Reduction in Methanosarcina barkeri During Direct Interspecies Electron Transfer

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
Direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET) is important in diverse methanogenic environments, but how methanogens participate in DIET is poorly understood.

Unveiling the spatially confined oxidation processes in reactive electrochemical membranes

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
Electrocatalytic oxidation offers opportunities for sustainable environmental remediation, but it is often hampered by the slow mass transfer and short lives of electro-generated radicals. Here, we achieve a four times higher kinetic constant (18.9 min−1)

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Electrochemical Biosensor for L-phenylalanine Based on a Gold Electrode Modified with Graphene Oxide Nanosheets and Chitosan

open access: yesInternational Journal of Electrochemical Science, 2014
Direct electrochemistry of phenylalanine dehydrogenase (PDH) immobilized on graphene oxide nanosheets (GO)-chitosan film was investigated for detecting phenylketonuria (PKU). A graphene based L-phenylalanine (L-Phe) biosensor was developed using a PDH-GO-

Sparking Anaerobic Digestion: Promoting Direct Interspecies Electron Transfer to Enhance Methane Production

open access: yesiScience, 2020
Anaerobic digestion was one of the first bioenergy strategies developed, yet the interactions of the microbial community that is responsible for the production of methane are still poorly understood. For example, it has only recently been recognized that

Electron Transfer Reaction Through an Adsorbed Layer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We consider electron transfer from a redox to an electrode through and adsorbed intermediate. The formalism is developed to cover all regimes of coverage factor, from lone adsorbate to monolayer regime. The randomness in the distribution of adsorbates is

Short-Lived Electron Transfer in Donor-Bridge-Acceptor Systems

open access: yes, 2016
We investigate time-dependent electron transfer (ET) in benchmark donor-bridge-acceptor systems. For the small bridge sizes studied, we obtain results far different from the perturbation theory which underlies scattering-based approaches, notably a lack ...

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Quantum railroads and directed localization at the juncture of quantum Hall systems

open access: yes, 2002
The integer quantum Hall effect (QHE) and one-dimensional Anderson localization (AL) are limiting special cases of a more general phenomenon, directed localization (DL), predicted to occur in disordered one-dimensional wave guides called "quantum ...
