Toward Consistent Canopy Characterization From Low‐Cost UAV Imagery
We show that UAV‐based crown segmentation can reliably characterize dominant canopy trees in a structurally complex tropical forest. Focusing on these key individuals improves the assessment of forest structure and supports ecological monitoring at multiple scales. ABSTRACT Monitoring tropical forest structure at landscape scale requires cost‐effective

Direct Georeferencing with GPS in Terrestrial Laser Scanning
In this paper, a combined terrestrial laser scanning survey system is presented, where GPS can be used for direct georeferencing of the point clouds. The results of investigations of this system show that it is possible to achieve the coordinate accuracy of better than 1 cm in the point cloud, both in plane and height, at the object distance of up to ...

Morphological Changes and Alterations in Erosion–Accretion Patterns in a Semiarid Brazilian River
Flow regulation by the Castanhão Dam significantly altered discharge dynamics and reduced sediment transport in the Jaguaribe River. Long‐term analysis (1958–2025) reveals attenuated flood peaks, decreased channel migration and progressive downstream stabilisation, highlighting persistent geomorphic adjustments in a regulated semiarid fluvial system ...

Acute diarrheal disease rates are associated with seasonality and the type of water supply system. ABSTRACT Acute diarrheal disease (ADD) remains a major public health problem in low‐ and middle‐income countries, where vulnerabilities in water supply systems (WSSs) are associated with increased exposure to disease.

This research paper investigates the efficacy of leading machine learning (ML) models for detecting and identifying ungulate species in African savanna using nadir imagery from unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Traditional aerial counting methods, while widely used, suffer from significant limitations in accuracy and precision, in part due to human ...
