Direct Georeferencing with GPS in Terrestrial Laser Scanning
In this paper, a combined terrestrial laser scanning survey system is presented, where GPS can be used for direct georeferencing of the point clouds. The results of investigations of this system show that it is possible to achieve the coordinate accuracy of better than 1 cm in the point cloud, both in plane and height, at the object distance of up to ...

CyberGeoAI For Intelligent Spatial Decision Support
ABSTRACT The evolution of spatial decision support systems (SDSS) is being rapidly shaped by the integration of Cyberinfrastructure (CI) and Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI), collectively referred to as CyberGeoAI. The rise of big data, complex decision environments, and computing power gives opportunities for advanced tool development to ...

On the calibration strategy of medium format cameras for direct georeferencing
This paper presents an all-airborne approach for the geometric self-calibration of medium format digital cameras used in direct georeferencing. The motivation for this research was the problems of variation of distortion within the photographic field and high parameter correlations that can result from laboratory self-calibration.

After some initial hesitations, the direct georeferencing (DG) of airborne sensors by GPS/INS is now a widely accepted approach in the airborne mapping industry. Implementing DG not only speeds up the mapping process and thus increases the productivity, but also opens the door to new monitoring applications.

Self-calibration and direct georeferencing in terrestrial laser scanning
An important step in data processing from terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) is georeferencing, i.e. transformation of the scanner data (point clouds) into a real world coordinate system, which is important for their integration with other geospatial data.

Direct georeferencing of multi-line images with a general sensor model
A general sensor model for the direct georeferencing of multi-line images acquired by CCD array sensors is under development at our Institute. The model is designed for sensors carried on both spacecraft and aircraft. If the sensor position and attitude are provided by additional observations (GPS/INS), the model computes the approximations of the ...

This report studies a practical problem related to the use of GPS/INS technology for sensor direct georeferencing. It is a case study of a specific, yet typical, situation whre the performance of a GPS/INS was pronounced unsatisfactory for orientation of an airborne sensor.
