Direct observation of a superconducting vortex diode

open access: yesNature Communications, 2023
A nonreciprocal critical current is known as the superconducting diode effect (SDE). Here, the authors use SQUID-on-tip to study SDE in a EuS/Nb bilayer and find that the stray field from magnetized EuS creates screening currents in the Nb, which lead to

Direct observation of quantum percolation dynamics

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2022
Percolation, describing critical behaviors of phase transition in a geometrical context, prompts wide investigations in natural and social networks as a fundamental model.

Direct Observation

open access: yes, 2013
Anthropologists suggest examining written material issued by or negotiated within international organizations (IOs) as “assemblages of discourses and practices, following their trajectories and histories” (Müller 2013: 8).

Direct Observation of Paramagnons in Palladium [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2010
We report an inelastic neutron scattering study of the spin fluctuations in the nearly-ferromagnetic element palladium. Dispersive over-damped collective magnetic excitations or ``paramagnons'' are observed up to 128 meV. We analyze our results in terms of a Moriya-Lonzarich-type spin fluctuation model and estimate the contribution of the spin ...

Direct Observation of Josephson Capacitance [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 2005
The effective capacitance has been measured in the split Cooper pair box (CPB) over its phase-gate bias plane. Our low-frequency reactive measurement scheme allows to probe purely the capacitive susceptibility due to the CPB band structure. The data are quantitatively explained using parameters determined independently by spectroscopic means.

Problems of Evidence in Ethnography. A Methodological Reflection on the Goffman/Mead Controversies (With a Proposal for Rules of Thumb)

open access: yesForum: Qualitative Social Research, 2020
The contestation of ethnographic authority in the post-truth era revolves around the credibility of ethnographic evidence. This doubting of ethnographic evidence is usually explained as the consequence of postmodern relativism coupled with political ...

Development of the systematic observation of COVID-19 mitigation (SOCOM): Assessing face covering and distancing in schools

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Translational Science, 2021
Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, some K-12 schools resumed in-person classes with varying degrees of mitigation plans in the fall 2020. Physical distancing and face coverings can minimize SARS-CoV-2 spread, the virus that causes COVID-19 ...

Effects of the observation method (direct v. from video) and of the presence of an observer on behavioural results in veal calves

open access: yesAnimal, 2013
This study aimed at assessing the effect of the observation method (direct or from video) and the effect of the presence of an observer on the behavioural results in veal calves kept on a commercial farm. To evaluate the effect of the observation method,
