Direct neighbor search

open access: yesInformation Systems, 2014
In this paper we study a novel query type, called direct neighbor query. Two objects in a dataset are direct neighbors (DNs) if a window selection may exclusively retrieve these two objects. Given a source object, a DN search computes all of its direct neighbors in the dataset.

Multi-Directional Heuristic Search [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Twenty-Ninth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2020
In the Multi-Agent Meeting problem (MAM), the task is to find a meeting location for multiple agents, as well as a path for each agent to that location. In this paper, we introduce MM*, a Multi-Directional Heuristic Search algorithm that finds the optimal meeting location under different cost functions.

Direct Answers in Google Search Results

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
This study aims to explore Google's new “featured snippet” (a direct answer that appears in web search results) to better understand the method of extracting and displaying such answers above regular ranked results.

Search efficiency in the Adam–Delbrück reduction-of-dimensionality scenario versus direct diffusive search

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2022
The time instant—the first-passage time (FPT)—when a diffusive particle (e.g., a ligand such as oxygen or a signalling protein) for the first time reaches an immobile target located on the surface of a bounded three-dimensional domain (e.g., a hemoglobin

The search for directed intelligence [PDF]

open access: yesREACH, 2016
We propose a search for sources of directed energy systems such as those now becoming technologically feasible on Earth. Recent advances in our own abilities allow us to foresee our own capability that will radically change our ability to broadcast our presence.

Search for direct pair production of the top squark in all-hadronic final states in proton-proton collisions at √s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The results of a search for direct pair production of the scalar partner to the top quark using an integrated luminosity of 20.1 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data at s√ = 8 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC are reported.

Exemplar-Based Direct Policy Search with Evolutionary Optimization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
In this paper, an exemplar-based policy optimization framework for direct policy search is presented. In this exemplar-based approach, the policy to be optimized is composed of a set of exemplars and a case-based action selector.

Generalized Queue-Aware Resource Management and Scheduling for Wireless Communications

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2015
The general problem of a queue-aware radio resource management and scheduling design is investigated for wireless communications under quasi-static fading channel conditions.

Directed Search with Endogenous Capacity [PDF]

open access: yesThe B.E. Journal of Theoretical Economics, 2015
AbstractWe study a large economy where capacity-constrained sellers post prices to attract buyers. Capacity is costly and each seller chooses how many units to stock, which allows us to study the relationship between search frictions and capacity. We show that no equilibrium exists with linear costs; however, sufficiently convex costs are enough for ...
