Timing of pre-seeding glyphosate application in direct-seeding systems

Canadian Journal of Plant Science, 2002
Producers are interested in whether crop productivity can be maintained with pre-seeding glyphosate application 2 to 3 wk prior to direct seeding with sweeps. A wider window for glyphosate application would be beneficial, particularly for producers with a large number of hectares.

Weed management in direct-seeded rice

Indian Journal of Weed Science, 2016
Rice (Oryza sativa), the staple food of more than half of the population of the world, is an important target to provide food security and livelihoods for millions. Direct seeding of rice (DSR) refers to the process of establishing the crop from seeds sown in the field rather than by transplanting seedling from the nursery.

Direct conversion of apricot seeds into biodiesel

Bioresource Technology
Using edible lipids for biodiesel production has been criticized, causing biodiesel production from inedible food resources to be desirable. Lipid extraction must be prioritized to produce biodiesel using an acid/base-catalyzed transesterification process, but this conversion process suffers from technical reliability.

Weed Management in Direct‐Seeded Rice

2007
Rice ( Oryza sativa L.) is a principal source of food for more than half of the world population, especially in South and Southeast Asia and Latin America. Elsewhere, it represents a high‐value commodity crop. Change in the method of crop establishment from traditional manual transplanting of seedlings to direct‐seeding has occurred in many Asian ...

Direct Seeding: Research Strategies and Opportunities

2002
Asian rice systems are undergoing various types of change in response to economic factors and technological opportunities in farming. One such change has been a shift from transplanting to direct-seeding methods for rice establishment. While the rising cost of labor has provided economic incentives for direct seeding, the availability of short-duration

Direct Seeded Rice in South Asia

2015
Rice–wheat is the major cropping system occupying 13.5 million ha in the Indo-Gangetic Plains of South Asia. Conventional puddle transplanted system of rice is water, capital and energy intensive. This system leads to structural deterioration of the soil.

Direct Seeding in the Lake States

Journal of Forestry, 1937
Abstract The greatly enlarged reforestation activities undertaken during the past few years by federal and state agencies have again awakened interest in the possibilities of establishing forests by sowing seed directly in the field. Since experiments with direct seeding were begun in 1926 in the Lake States and have been intensively ...

Spot-wise Direct Seeding for Redwood

Journal of Forestry, 1950
Abstract This article reports the results of direct seeding experiments conducted by the author from 1934 to 1949. Spot-wise direct seeding was undertaken because of the poor showing of planted nursery-grown stock in the period 1922-1930. The results of direct seeding varied from near-failures to near-successes.

Germination of Direct Harvested Peanut Seed

Transactions of the ASAE, 1983
ABSTRACT THE germination of seed from samples of peanuts dried in the laboratory with controlled (constant and cyclic) air temperature, humidity and airflow was determined. The peanuts were direct hravested, i.e., digging and picking in one pass through the field, to eliminate the uncertainties of windrow exposure and its effect on peanut seed ...
