Precast Concrete Deck-to-Girder Connection using UHPC [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The implementation of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC) in bridge construction has been growing rapidly in the last two decades due to its excellent mechanical properties, workability, and durability.

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Optimization of the Production of Rubber Compounds Using Mathematical Models

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Rubber compounds were mixed in a batch internal mixer, and symbolic regression was used to derive mathematical models linking recipe and process parameters to ram path, torque, and mixing quality (incorporation, dispersion, distribution). Subsequent optimization with evolutionary algorithms identified operating conditions that reduce specific energy ...

Numerical study on the mechanism of shear performance degradation of thawing glacial debris

open access: yesMeitan xuebao
The sensitivity of the ice-water transition in glacial debris to temperature rise has become a significant concern. In recent years, there has been an increase in reports of ice avalanches caused by the thawing of glacial debris, which can be attributed ...

Shearing tests with continuously increasing normal stress [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
In the conventional shearing tests the normal force or the normal stiffness are kept constant during the experiment. Sliding under constant normal load occurs in slopes if the environment is not changing during the process.

Workflow for Design of Experiments‐Based Modeling of Species Transport and Growth Kinetics in GaN Hydride Vapor Phase Epitaxy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel workflow for investigating hydride vapor phase epitaxy for GaN bulk crystal growth is proposed. It combines Design of experiments (DoE) with physical simulations of mass transport and crystal growth kinetics, serving as an intermediate step between DoE and experiments.

Experimental Investigation on Unloading-Induced Sliding Behavior of Dry Sands Subjected to Constant Shear Force

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Infilled joints or faults are often subjected to long-term stable shear forces, and nature surface processes of normal unloading can change the frictional balance.

Density Functional approach to Nonlinear Rheology

open access: yes, 2013
We present a density functional based closure of the pair Smoluchowski equation for Brownian particles under shear flow. Given an equilibrium free energy functional as input the theory provides first-principles predictions for the flow-distorted pair ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.
