Comparison of tensile strength values of rocks determined by point load and direct tension tests

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering, 1997
A number of methods exists to fail rock in tension. In general the experimental results obtained by these methods differ, and it is not known how to quantitavely compare them other than by empiricism, even to obtain a value for tensile strength. Thus at present, these simple and very useful tests which measures strength indirectly have their values ...

Direct Tensile Strength Testing at 6 Hours of Fiber Reinforced Concrete Mortar Fractions

open access: closedSP-155: Testing of Fiber Reinforced Concrete, 1995
The prime consideration in minimizing concrete cracks in the field is to maximize the early (6-hour) tensile strength development to resist the volume reduction due to rapid water loss. This paper describes a test method, which simulates field conditions, for measuring direct tensile strength soon after initial set at 6 hours.

Estimating the direct tensile strength of rocks from indirect tests

Arabian Journal of Geosciences, 2021
Within the scope of this study, a series of experimental, numerical and statistical analyses were performed in order to find the coefficients that would allow the accurate determination of the tensile strength values of the rocks. In this context, direct and indirect tensile strength values of 9 different rock types including sedimentary, metamorphic ...
