Direct Tensile Test to Assess Healing in Asphalt [PDF]

open access: yesTransportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2016
Asphalt concrete has the advantageous ability to heal. During rest periods, damage present in the material is restored to a certain extent. Healing of the material can be observed in its regaining of strength and stiffness after rest periods. In this paper, a new test method is presented.

CURRENT COGNITION OF ROCK TENSILE STRENGTH TESTING BY BRAZILIAN TEST [PDF]

open access: yesRudarsko-geološko-naftni Zbornik, 2015
Tensile strength in rock mechanics is a characteristic more frequently determined in the indirect rather than direct way. This paper presents a historical review of the development of the indirect method called the Brazilian test, comprising the period ...

Direct Tensile Test on Brittle Rocks with the Newly Developed Centering Apparatus [PDF]

open access: yesGeotechnical Testing Journal, 2017
Abstract Failure of brittle rock normally initiates from tensile fracture due to its extraordinary lower resistance to tension rather than to compression. Intensive study on the deformability and accurate acquirement of the mechanical properties of rock under tensile stress is crucial for the stability analysis of rock slope and rock ...

A Direct Measurement Method for the Uniaxial Tensile Strength of Rock [PDF]

open access: yesBuildings
A universally applicable direct tension test method is proposed in this paper based on the concept of “compression-to-tension”. Using this method, one or two typical rocks were selected for each of the three types of rocks.

Loading Rate Effect of Rock Material with the Direct Tensile and Three Brazilian Disc Tests [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2019
A series of experimental tests were conducted to investigate the effects of loading rate on the tensile strength of sandstone by using four test methods, including a direct tensile method and three typical Brazilian disc methods (plate loading, circular ...

Determining Tensile Strength of Rock by the Direct Tensile, Brazilian Splitting, and Three-Point Bending Methods: A Comparative Study [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2021
To accurately obtain the tensile strength of rock and fully understand the evolution process of rock failure is one of the key issues to the research of rock mechanics theories and rock mass engineering applications.

Indirect Tensile Strength Test on Heterogeneous Rock Using Square Plate Sample with a Circular Hole [PDF]

open access: yesLithosphere
An indirect testing method for determining the tensile strength of rock-like heterogeneous materials is proposed. The realistic failure process analysis method, which can consider material inhomogeneity, is applied to model the failure process of the ...

Shape Effect and Accuracy Analysis of Rock Tensile Strength Test [PDF]

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To investigate the influence of shape effects on the tensile strength of rocks, splitting tests were conducted on disc specimens with the same thickness-to-diameter ratio but different diameters using physical similarity simulation and numerical ...

Numerical Simulation of Tensile Failure of Concrete in Direct, Flexural, Double Punch Tensile and Ring Tests [PDF]

open access: yesPeriodica Polytechnica Civil Engineering, 2016
The present study considers the tensile strength of concrete samples in direct, flexural, double punch and ring tests using both of the experimental tests and numerical simulation (particle flow code 2D). It determined that which one of indirect tensile strength is close to direct tensile strength.
