Magnetic resonance direct thrombus imaging: a novel technique for imaging venous thromboemboli

open access: yesThrombosis and Haemostasis, 2003
SummaryInvasive testing is now seldom required in patients with suspected venous thromboembolism (VTE). However, a corollary of noninvasive imaging is increased complexity as results are often yielded as probabilities rather than definitive answers and additional testing is frequently required following initial imaging.

Diagnosis of Lower-Limb Deep Venous Thrombosis: A Prospective Blinded Study of Magnetic Resonance Direct Thrombus Imaging

Annals of Internal Medicine, 2002
Current magnetic resonance techniques generate high signal from venous blood and show thrombi as filling defects. Magnetic resonance direct thrombus imaging (MRDTI) directly visualizes acute thrombus. To determine the accuracy of MRDTI for diagnosis of acute symptomatic deep venous thrombosis (DVT) below and above the knee.Prospective, blinded study.A ...

A review on the association of thrombus composition with mechanical and radiological imaging characteristics in acute ischemic stroke [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biomechanics, 2021
Thrombus composition and mechanical properties significantly impact the ease and outcomes of thrombectomy procedures in patients with acute ischemic stroke. A wide variation exists in the composition of thrombi between patients.

Thrombus imaging in acute stroke: correlation of thrombus length on susceptibility-weighted imaging with endovascular reperfusion success [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Radiology, 2014
OBJECTIVES Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) enables visualization of thrombotic material in acute ischemic stroke. We aimed to validate the accuracy of thrombus depiction on SWI compared to time-of-flight MRA (TOF-MRA), first-pass gadolinium ...

Evaluation of DNA aptamers directed to thrombin as potential thrombus imaging agents

Nuclear Medicine and Biology, 2003
Two DNA aptamers directed against two separate exosites on human alpha-thrombin were evaluated for thrombus-imaging potential. Aptamer ODN 1 is directed to the thrombin substrate binding site (exosite 1). Our finding that ODN 1 competes with fibrin for binding to exosite 1 on thrombin suggests that ODN 1 will not be useful for thrombus imaging. Aptamer

Direct magnetic resonance imaging of carotid artery thrombus in acute stroke

The Lancet, 1999
Stroke remains a common cause of morbidity and mortality and affects over 100 000 people per year in the UK. Thromboembolism complicating atheromatous disease within the carotid arteries is the major predisposing cause. Management of patients will be assisted if strokes that arise in this way can be distinguished reliably from those caused by emboli of
