Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Direct energy deposition for smart micro reactor

open access: yesVirtual and Physical Prototyping
Nuclear microreactors (MRs) have attracted significant attention for their versatility in installation locations, especially with the growing demand for sustainable green energy in large data processing facilities. However, ensuring their safe operation necessitates frequent inspections, which can be challenging for practical efficient management. This

Corrosion and Process Analysis of a Preoxidized MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode in Laboratory‐Scale Na‐Cryolite Molten Salt Electrolysis of Aluminum at 1000°C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
EDX elemental map of the pre‐oxidized MgO–steel cermet anode cross section after electrolysis. The development of inert anodes for aluminum electrolysis remains challenging due to the high corrosivity of cryolite‐based melts at 950°C–1000°C. This study investigates the corrosion and process behavior of a carbon‐free MgO–steel cermet anode derived from ...

Cracking Behaviour of René 80-Type Superalloy During Laser-Based Directed Energy Deposition

open access: yesMetals
Features of microstructure, mechanical properties, and cracking behaviour of the René 80-type superalloy manufactured by laser-based directed energy deposition (DED-LB) have been investigated. Different cracking behaviours were observed in two thin walls

Resistance Rapid Heating of Aluminum Coatings in an Extreme High Vacuum–Adequate Atmosphere for Hot Stamping

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The subject of this work is the development of a corrosion‐protective coating on steel sheets for form hardening. Rapid heating in an extreme high vacuum (XHV)‐adequate atmosphere is a useful method to prevent oxidation during alloying of 22MnB5 and aluminum to obtain a metallurgical bonding.

Directed Energy Deposition of AA7075

open access: yes, 2020
Directed energy deposition (DED) is an additive manufacturing technique which is commonly used to produce high dimension components, made from steels, titanium, aluminum and nickel alloys, in a short period of time. In addition, there is an increasing demand for producing high strength components using DED.

Interaction of Ladle Slag With Varying SiO2 Content and Recyclate‐Based MgO–C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Ladle slags (CaO/Al2O3 = 1) with 1–20 wt% SiO2 were investigated in contact with industrial MgO–C refractories fabricated from fresh magnesia and 50 wt% recyclate. The sessile drop method at 1600°C reveals intensive gas formation, delayed slag infiltration in recyclate‐based samples, and, under high‐SiO2 slag, formation of a dense MgAl2O4‐rich ...
