Direction-of-Arrival (DOA) Estimation based on Spacetime-Modulated Metasurface

2019 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and USNC-URSI Radio Science Meeting, 2019
We introduce the concept of DOA estimation based on spacetime-modulated 2D-patch-array metasurface. Such a system, compared to conventional DOA estimators, offers the key advantage of requiring only one receiving antenna, with the metasurface placed in front of it.

Virtural receiving array (VRA) method for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation

Proceedings of the 2012 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation, 2012
Using the data from a signal-element receiver on a moving Unmanned Arial Vehicle (UAV), this paper introduces a VRA method to obtain the data that can be used in the Direct Data Domain (D3) method for the signal DOA estimation.

Direction of arrival (DOA) estimation system using 3D printed Luneburg lens

2016 IEEE/ACES International Conference on Wireless Information Technology and Systems (ICWITS) and Applied Computational Electromagnetics (ACES), 2016
A novel direction of arrival (DOA) estimation system based on a broadband 3D printed Luneburg lens is reported in this paper. Using the property of a Luneburg lens that the focus point of an incident plane wave is at the opposite side on the surface of the lens, 36 diode detectors with 10 degree spacing are mounted around the surface of a 3D printed ...

Direction of arrival (DOA) parameter estimation with the SAGE algorithm

Signal Processing, 2004
In this study, we investigate the estimation of the relative delay, the azimuth and elevation angle and the complex amplitude of a known received signal with the space alternating generalised expectation (SAGE) maximisation algorithm. This optimisation algorithm is used to replace the high-dimensional optimisation procedure, necessary to compute the ...

Improved maximum likelihood spectrum for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation

ICASSP-88., International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2003
A variation of J. Capon's (1969) maximum-likelihood (ML) spectral estimation algorithm is described for calculating direction of arrival using a short linear array. The proposed modification involves altering the computed covariance spectral matrix by setting its lowest eigen value to a small, positive constant lambda '(min).
