Direction of arrival estimation by subspace methods

International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2002
It is demonstrated that a Bayesian analysis can be simplified and can lead to a practical direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimator. This estimator is remarkably similar to the MUSIC algorithm, but has a threshold which is significantly lower than that for MUSIC. The reason for this improvement in performance is identified.

Compressive frequency-difference direction-of-arrival estimation

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2023
Direction-of-arrival estimation is difficult for signals spatially undersampled by more than half the wavelength. Frequency-difference beamforming [Abadi, Song, and Dowling (2012). J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 132, 3018–3029] offers an alternative approach to avoid such spatial aliasing by using multifrequency signals and processing them at a lower frequency ...

Sparse Direction-of-Arrival Estimation with Directive Coprime Arrays

2018 IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation & USNC/URSI National Radio Science Meeting, 2018
This paper proposes a sparse direction of arrival (DOA) estimation method for directive coprime arrays. The complex radiation patterns are extracted using an electromagnetic simulator and then incorporated in the DOA estimation. Three DOA algorithms are compared including Capon, MUSIC, and Lasso based on compressive sensing (CS).

Direction-of-Arrival Estimation using a Direct-Data Approach

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace and Electronic Systems, 2011
This paper presents a direct-data (DD) counterpart to the covariance-based (CB) algorithm for direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation. The proposed DD-DOA scheme provides reduced computational complexity as compared with other ESPRIT variations, filling in a theoretical gap not covered by previously presented schemes.

Direction of Arrival Estimation with Uniform Planar Array

2017 IEEE 86th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC-Fall), 2017
Analog/digital/hybrid beamformer/receiver designs for mmWave communication have attracted great research attentions including directional of arrival (DOA) estimation. Traditional investigation of smart antennas for wireless communications has primarily focused on uniform linear array (ULA) antennas and there are little attention and literature on other

Subspace estimators of direction of arrival

Conference Record of the Thirty-Eighth Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems and Computers, 2004., 2005
We consider in this paper a class of techniques for the estimation of the direction of arrival of a narrowband signal. Eigenvectors of a spectral covariance matrix corresponding to a number of the lowest eigenvalues are used to estimate the bearing. It is shown that the estimator has a non-standard asymptotic distribution.

Wavelet packets-based direction-of-arrival estimation

2004 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2004
Wavelet packets-based MUSIC (WP-MUSIC) is proposed to improve the performance of classical MUSIC in scenarios of closely spaced DOA and low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). With WP-MUSIC the fullband signal is decomposed into several subbands by wavelet packets, and then MUSIC is applied to each subband.

Maximum likelihood methods for direction-of-arrival estimation

IEEE Transactions on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 1990
Five methods of direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation which can be derived from the maximum-likelihood (ML) principle are considered. The ML method (MLM) results from the application of the ML principle to the statistics of the observed raw data. The standard multiple signal classification (MUSIC) procedure, called MUSIC-1, is obtained as a brute-force

Direction-of-arrival estimation of an amplitude-distorted wavefront

IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing, 2001
In a number of array signal processing applications, such as underwater source localization, the propagation medium is not homogeneous, which causes a distortion of the wavefront received by the array. There has been some interest in the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation of such distorted wavefronts.
