Directional asymmetry of pelvic vestiges in threespine stickleback

Journal of Experimental Zoology Part B: Molecular and Developmental Evolution, 2006
AbstractExtensive reduction of the size and complexity of the pelvic skeleton (i.e., pelvic reduction) has evolved repeatedly in Gasterosteus aculeatus. Asymmetrical pelvic vestiges tend to be larger on the left side (i.e., left biased) in populations studied previously. Loss of Pitx1 expression is associated with pelvic reduction in G.

Directional dental asymmetry in South Sinai Bedouin isolates

Anthropologischer Anzeiger, 1987
Dental casts of 242 Bedouin children were used to study directional asymmetry (DA). Results of Student's t-test pair comparison showed that for permanent dentition, 4 out of 24 DA measures were statistically significant whereas for deciduous dentition, 8 out of 20 measures were significant (p less than 0.05).

Inducing jet‐lag in older people: Directional asymmetry

Journal of Sleep Research, 2000
Twenty healthy elderly subjects (12 female, 8 male; mean age 81 years, range 67–87 years) each experienced a 15‐day time isolation protocol in which they lived individually in a special laboratory apartment in which sleep and circadian rhythm measures could be taken.

Symmetries, asymmetries and sense of direction

2013
This thesis deals with problems related to the notion of sense of direction in graphs: We define this notion and provide some examples of labelling that realize it. We then survey the problem of minimal sense of direction in regular graphs using symmetric labelling, and its connection to various notions such as cycle symmetry, vertex symmetry, Cayley ...
