Directional coupler for optical waveguides [PDF]
Feasibility study of transmitting optical energy in single mode through photonic waveguides results in a conceptual directional coupler consisting of two types of optical waveguides /a stratified /core/ dielectric and a mirror wall/.

Channel Optical Waveguides and Directional Couplers in GaAs -- Imbedded and Ridged [PDF]
Two-channel imbedded directional couplers were fabricated with proton implantation, yielding complete light transfer in 2 mm. Ridged channel guides were fabricated by ion-micromachining epitaxial layers, and a method of directional coupling was ...

Broadband terahertz fiber directional coupler [PDF]
We present the design of a short broadband fiber directional coupler for terahertz (THz) radiation and demonstrate a 3 dB coupler with a bandwidth of 0.6 THz centered at 1.4 THz. The broadband coupling is achieved by mechanically downdoping the cores of a dual-core photonic crystal fiber by microstructuring the cores.

Chemotherapy side effects significantly impact cancer survivors' quality of life. Using protein levels in blood samples from breast cancer patients before and after 12 weeks of taxane treatment, we detected treatment‐dependent changes in calcium signaling and aging pathways associated with cancer recurrence.

Ultracompact and low-power optical switch based on silicon photonic crystals [PDF]
Switching light is one of the most fundamental functions of an optical circuit. As such, optical switches are a major research topic in photonics, and many types of switches have been realized.

Compact High-Directivity Contra-Directional Coupler
This paper presents a novel design of a compact contra-directional coupler with high directivity for high-power monitoring in high frequency. Microstrip parallel coupled lines are widely used for directional couplers; however, they show poor directivity inherently. Their directivity has been improved by many works.

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Multiple sclerosis (MS) exhibits racially disparate rates of disease progression. Black people with MS (B‐PwMS) experience a more severe disease course than non‐Hispanic White people with MS (NHW‐PwMS). Here we investigated structural and functional connectivity as well as structure–function decoupling in the ...

The nonlinear directional coupler. An analytic solution
Linear and nonlinear directional couplers are currently used in fiber optics communications. They may also play a role in multiphoton approaches to quantum information processing if accurate control is obtained over the phases and polarizations of the ...

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Coupled line directional couplers with controlling type of directivity
The original design approach for 0-dB directional coupler with forward and backward coupling in two different frequency bands is proposed. The device is realized by loading the coupled line based directional coupler by split ring and mushroom resonators.
