Backscattering in silicon microring resonators: a quantitative analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Silicon microring resonators very often exhibit resonance splitting due to backscattering. This effect is hard to quantitatively and predicatively model.

Creep Properties and Deformation Mechanism of Additively Manufactured NiAl‐CrMo Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additively manufactured NiAl‐CrMo composites contain numerous interfaces and cell boundaries that control their creep response. At 700°C under high applied stress, creep is dominated by dislocation‐controlled power‐law mechanisms. At 800°C–900°C and lower stresses, creep is primarily diffusion‐controlled along cell boundaries.

Mountain-Shaped Coupler for Ultra Wideband Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper demonstrates a novel mountain-shaped design for a compact 3-dB coupler operating at ultra-wideband (UWB) frequencies from 3.1GHz to 10.6 GHz. The proposed design was accomplished using multilayer technology in which the structure is formed by ...

Frequency response and tunability of grating-assisted directional couplers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
The spectral properties of grating-assisted directional couplers are studied using an improved coupled mode formulation. Key parameters for the design of these structures, such as the grating period, the coupling length, and other structural parameters ...

Direct Metal Deposition of Graphene–Ti28Nb35.4Zr Matrix Composites With Enhanced Mechanical, Corrosion, and Biocompatibility Properties for Bone Implants

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Graphene nanoplatelet (0.1 wt.%) reinforcement significantly enhances the performance of β Ti‐28Nb‐35.4Zr alloy. Grain refinement, reduced water contact angle, and improved surface characteristics promote osteoblast adhesion and complete surface coverage after 7 days.

A Fixed Miniaturization 90° Phase Shifter for VHF-Band High-Power Applications

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
This paper presents a novel miniaturization 90° phase shifter using parallel coupled inductors and capacitors. The size reduction is achieved by replacing the quarter-wavelength transmission lines in a conventional fixed 90 degrees phase shifter ...

Design considerations for high-power VHF radar transceivers: Phase matching long coaxial cables using a cable radar [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The Poker Flat 49.92-MHz MST radar uses 64 phase-controlled transmitters in individual shelters distributed throughout the antenna array. Phase control is accomplished by sampling the transmitted pulse at the directional coupler of each transmitter and ...

Acoustic Vector-Corrected Impedance Meter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We describe the development of a novel instrument intended for the measurement of the acoustical reflection coefficient of materials. The instrument effectively implements a one-port vector-corrected network analyzer in the acoustic, rather than the ...

Advancing Electronic Application of Coordination Solids: Enhancing Electron Transport and Device Integration via Surface‐Mounted MOFs (SURMOFs)

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The layer‐by‐layer (LbL) assembly of coordination solids, enabled by the surface‐mounted metal‐organic framework (SURMOF) platform, is on the cusp of generating the organic counterpart of the epitaxy of inorganics. The programmable and sequential SURMOF protocol, optimized by machine learning (ML), is suited for accessing high‐quality thin films of ...
