Nanoindentation Criteria for Combinatorial Thin Film Libraries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thin‐film material libraries are compositional spreads used for screening composition‐structure‐property relationships. Nanoindentation is often used to characterize mechanical behavior across these systems, however variations in methodology are widespread.

Broadband Monolithic GaN Balanced Amplifier Composed of Mixed Cascade-Tandem Directional Couplers and Cascode Stages

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
In this paper we present a broadband monolithic balanced amplifier reaching 30 dBm output power over a range from 5.7 GHz up to 35.1 GHz. To the best of our knowledge, such broad operational bandwidth has never been reported in literature for balanced ...

Theory of cw Raman oscillation in optical fibers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
A theory for Raman fiber laser oscillators is presented. The Stokes output and the residual pump power are shown to be calculable from a knowledge of the input pump power and the fiber characteristics. The evolution of the pump and the Stokes waves along

Compact High-Directivity Contra-Directional Coupler

open access: yesElectronics, 2022
This paper presents a novel design of a compact contra-directional coupler with high directivity for high-power monitoring in high frequency. Microstrip parallel coupled lines are widely used for directional couplers; however, they show poor directivity inherently. Their directivity has been improved by many works.

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Design of GaSb-based monolithic passive photonic devices at wavelengths above 2 µm

open access: yesJPhys Photonics, 2023
In this paper, we report, for the first time, a theoretical study on passive photonic devices including optical power splitters/combiners and grating couplers (GCs) operating at non-telecom wavelengths above 2 µ m in a monolithic GaSb platform.

4-by-4 Integrated Waveguide Coupler Based on Bi-Directional Propagation in Two Single-Mode Waveguides

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2021
We propose and investigate theoretically the use of bi-directional propagation of light in silica integrated coupled waveguide structures for linear optical processing of fiber-coupled photons.

Near-infrared Hong-Ou-Mandel interference on a silicon quantum photonic circuit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Near-infrared Hong-Ou-Mandel quantum interference is observed in silicon nanophotonic directional couplers with raw visibilities on-chip at 90.5%. Spectrally-bright 1557-nm two-photon states are generated in a periodically-poled KTiOPO4 waveguide chip ...

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

A photonic integrated chip for distinguishing the optical wave packets based on a neural-network

open access: yesResults in Physics
In this work, we use an optical-neural network to recognize a series of optical triangular and square wave packets. This chip is designed based on the reservoir computing, consisting of the directional couplers, phase shifters, Mach-Zehnder modulators ...
